POSITION SUMMARY

The California Workforce Initiative for Support & Education-South (CalWISE-S) Financial Analyst will report to the Southern Site Director and Program Supervisor to support the financial administration of projects and tasks consistent with the execution of CalWISE-S's mission and goals. The CalWISE-S is currently comprised of 10 graduate social work schools, and associated BSW programs, located in Southern California. In collaboration with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and CalWISE-N, CalWISE-S provides pre-service and in-service support, training, and preparation for social work students and workers at social welfare agencies.

The Financial Analyst will coordinate, implement, and support various financial and administrative tasks and projects, working under the auspices of the university deans and directors, who set policy direction in concert with public agency leaders. The CalWISE-S Financial Analyst will coordinate and implement all financial tasks and projects supporting students and social workers.

The Financial Analyst will use skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Contacts are both internal and external to the department.

Financial Analysis and Planning

Collect, analyze, prepare, and summarize recommendations for financial and/or resource plans, including strategies for annual resource allocation, future requirement trends, operational forecasts, sources and uses.

Budget Management and Control

Coordinate and implement department budget allocations, establish and maintain the department’s chart of accounts, data management tools, and associated business processes.

Research and Reporting

Conduct research and reporting such as budgetary analysis, financial analysis, forecasts, projections, staff or faculty salary or FTE analysis, recharge or general rate analysis, contracts and grants analysis, depreciation, etc.

Transaction Management

Prepare and review financial transactions.

Manager financial controls

Ensures that the appropriate internal controls are addressed, maintained and strengthened to protect University resources.

Process Documentation and Training

Independently gather information as needed to perform analysis. Document procedures for financial activities. Train staff as needed, creating an effective team environment when appropriate.

Independently gathers information as needed to perform analysis for CalWISE.
