POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Training Director of the LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence, the Trainer will have responsibilities to 1) train topics relevant to public child welfare to LA County DCFS social workers and other DCFS staff to about 40-50 participants, 2) reviews child welfare curriculum content for relevance and eligibility for Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) accreditation, 3) write curriculum relevant to public child welfare.

 

This position requires knowledge of public child welfare subject matter expertise on various topics and practice. Previous experience as a child social worker is preferred and would be competitive.

 

Position requires a current and active LCSW and working knowledge of BBS requirements for obtaining a licensure as LCSW such as knowing what courses are required for pre-licensure and maintaining licensure.

 

Previous 3-5 years experience in training and 1-2 years writing curriculum for public child welfare are desirable.

 

Master's degree in social work or closely related field. This position requires strong working knowledge and/or expertise in child welfare and training (live and virtual) experience as well as strong project management skills, interpersonal, presentation, collaboration, and facilitation skills are required.


Department Summary

The LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) which is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master's degree programs in social work provide training to new and current employees at DCFS, particularly new hire Children's Social Workers (CSWs), current CSWs, and Supervising Social Workers (SCSWs), Human Services Aides (HSAs), Child Service Administrators (CSAs), Eligibility Workers,  public health nurses (PHNs), other managers and  administrators, case aides, and public stakeholders.

Training Delivery & Curriculum Development

Provide training both live and virtual and curriculum development on a variety of child welfare-related topics to DCFS personnel at multiple levels, including newly hired CSWs, existing CSW staff, as well as possibly to SCSWs, managers/administrators, support staff, PHNs, and other stakeholders such as resource parents, mental health staff, judges/lawyers, etc.Assist with training scheduling, planning, course development, development of learning objectives and abstracts, registration, simulation and coaching activities, and complete program reports, help design training evaluations, and other duties as assigned. Administer training evaluations by use of laptops or other technology as requested, including giving instructions to trainees, monitoring compliance, and trouble-shooting issues.

Training Assistance & Simulation

Oversee and assist with developing contract trainers in delivery of training content, offering coordination and instruction to facilitate effective training delivery as well as linking content to other trainings as well as the DCFS practice model and mission. Be involved in simulation field training, providing substantive direction in a manner consistent with the practice model and the direction of the AWE.  Set up and maintain training rooms as needed, including moving sets in simulation centers, arranging chairs and tables, preparing and moving flip charts and easels, distributing equipment, supplies, handouts, etc.

Subject Matter Content Expertise

1. Review child welfare training curriculum and trainer experience and expertise for adherence to Board of Behavioral Sciences regulations and requirements for prelicensure and licensure renewal. (E) 2.  Demonstrated skill in working with, scheduling and coordinating with Subject Matter Experts (Trainers) on child welfare topics. (E) 3.Attend BBS conferences as needed on a regular basis to maintain knowledge about BBS regulations. (M) 4. Other duties such as training public child welfare curriculum.

Lead Project Coordination and Administration

1. Conduct and lead meetings with LA County DCFS in planning courses that which are required by BBS licensure regulations. (E) 2. Respond to LA County DCFS on questions around BBS regulations. (E) 3. Demonstrated skill and accuracy in writing and editing, including excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation. (E) 4. Work in coordination and collaboration with UCLA AWE team lead on BBS in planning BBS courses. (E) 5. Take direction and work independently with minimal supervision/direction, making independent decisions, establishing priorities, and following through on RFT timelines per the LA County contract. Training Space Preparation

Assist with maintenance and overall operational functioning of the training center, on-site and off-site trainings, simulation training, office-based coaching, logistics contracting, training center set up/clean up, and related technology.
