POSITION SUMMARY | Under general supervision of the Men's Basketball Head Coach, the Assistant General Manager of men's Basketball is a strategic leader responsible for managing key areas of modern roster building, including NIL strategy, transfer portal operations, player contracts (NIL deals), and agent relations. This role serves as a bridge between the coaching staff, student-athletes, external partners (agents, collectives, brands), and the university's compliance and branding arms. The Assistant General Manager will support all aspects of roster management, player development, and brand growth to ensure the program remains competitive both on the court and in the NIL marketplace. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Roster Construction & Contracts | • Assist with scholarship/NIL budget planning to build a sustainable, competitive roster. • Partner with legal and compliance teams to vet contracts, MOUs, and third-party agreements tied to NIL or team branding. • Organize and manage player contracts through a centralized system. | 30% | Agent & External Relations | • Serve as primary liaison with agents, advisors, family reps, and NIL deal facilitators. • Manage pre-draft and post-season communication pipelines with players' agents. • Maintain a relationship network within the college and pro basketball ecosystem. | 25% | Branding & Marketing Support | • Work with creative/media teams to enhance student-athlete visibility across platforms (social, apparel, appearances). • Help develop personalized branding strategies for top players (logos, merch, campaigns, etc.). • Collaborate with university marketing and external relations on brand partnerships and licensing. | 20% | Player Personnel & Transfer Portal Management | • Manage internal database and evaluations of current roster, incoming recruits, and potential portal targets. • Lead player movement forecasting—eligibility, draft decisions, transfers in/out. • Develop target lists in collaboration with the GM and coaching staff based on analytics, team fit, and NIL profile. | 20% | Rules Compliance | • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.” • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and University of California System.
