POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the MRED Executive Director, the MRED Director of Career Development & Industry Outreach provides career development and job search needs of UCLA Luskin's MRED students (approximately 40 students) and supports the MRED Advisory Board and other industry outreach activities. The Director of Career Development & Industry Outreach will provide general and foundational career advising and guidance to all MRED students, and this role will have the versatility to advise students across multiple MRED-relevant industries and functions. This advisor will also contribute to developing and implementing MRED's comprehensive career development program, including:

 

• One-on-one career advising

• Weekly career development instruction

• Lunch & learn talks

• Job search skills workshops and career development events

• Employer engagement and recruiting programs.

 

The Director of Career Development & Industry Outreach works closely with MRED students to provide holistic and transformational career perspectives, while supporting their short and long-term career development and goals across a wide range of real estate functions.

 

The Director of Career Development & Industry Outreach also provides staff support for the MRED Advisory Council, assisting with industry outreach and events programming.

 


Department Summary

Student Career Advising

Provide tailored one-on-one advising to help students through the career search process, including:

- Self-assessment and goal setting.

- Networking and relationship building.

- Researching and targeting industries and organizations.

- Crafting resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles.

- Preparing for interviews and negotiations.

Track progress and career outcomes of assigned set of MRED students throughout their MRED journey.

Develop a broad understanding of MRED-relevant career paths and recruiting processes and deep knowledge in select industry verticals to effectively advise students.

Collaborate with student professional clubs and alumni to stay current on industry trends and facilitate career connections.

Career Programming

Contribute to the MRED Career Development Series course by leading sessions or workshops on various aspects of the job search. Design and deliver presentations, panel discussions, and workshops on topics such as networking, value proposition, branding, interview preparation, and career exploration.

Leverage creativity to organize effective programming that addresses the evolving needs of students throughout their MBA journey.

MRED Mentor Program

Serve as the primary liaison for a peer coaching program led by industry mentors for RED students. Contribute to continuing development and implementation of industry mentor program and various related resources for both mentors and students.

Student Club Engagement

Act as the lead career advisor for MRED’s student professional club (Real Estate Development Students’ Association), providing guidance on career-related programming and corporate engagement. Partner with other relevant campus clubs to develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and industry-specific events.

Corporate Outreach and Employer Relations

Work with MRED Executive Director to build and strengthen relationships with employers across various sectors. Engage with recruiters, alumni and corporate representatives to discuss MRED hiring trends and best practices. Track and analyze employer hiring practices, timelines, and set KPIs to support both student outcomes and employer engagement strategies.

Networking and Representation

Represent MRED at networking events, conferences, and recruiting forums on and off campus. Serve as a liaison between students, MRED staff, alumni, and industry professionals to foster meaningful career connections.

MRED Council Liaison

Act as lead for the MRED Advisory Council. Interact with Council members, and work with Executive Director to conduct industry outreach to recruit new members. Assist with programming for MRED Advisory Council, including annual events.
