POSITION SUMMARY | The Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor to the Associate Vice Chancellor reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Office of Campus and Community Safety, leading or coordinating a wide range of complex activities and responsibilities. The Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor carries primary responsibility and accountability for the progress and success of Office of Campus and Community Safety initiatives, including short and long-term initiatives designed to improve campus and community safety. The Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor provides the Associate Vice Chancellor with strategic counsel, guidance and policy and personnel support. The Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor participates in senior leadership meetings including the Associate Vice Chancellor's meetings. The Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor will recommend resources, strategies, personnel assignments, and budget allocations for key initiatives related to campus and community safety. In the Associate Vice Chancellor's absence, the Chief of Staff and Strategic Advisor will attend meetings, provide advice and counsel, and generally serve in place of the Associate Vice Chancellor. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Chief of Staff 1 | • Provide strategic advice to the Associate Vice Chancellor regarding campus issues and organizations, assisting with cultivating and sustaining collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders. • Provide recommendations regarding the Associate Vice Chancellor’s decisions and provide a confidential sounding board in response to internal and external risks and crises. • Appear on behalf the Associate Vice Chancellor when necessary. • Prepare the Associate Vice Chancellor for key meetings and public appearances. | 35% | Chief of Staff 2 | • Serve as the UCLA community’s first point of contact for the Office of Campus and Community safety, when necessary. • Provide regular liaison and oversight of those who report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor, including periodic staff meetings with those direct reports to assess progress on initiatives. • Provide oversight and supervision for the Associate Vice Chancellors administrative and support staff. • Monitor and supervise the daily operations of the Office of Campus and Community Safety. | 30% | Project Management | • Provide active oversight of multiple ongoing projects which originate with, or are being monitored by, the Office of Campus and Community Safety. • Ensure that subordinate leaders to the Associate Vice Chancellor are meeting short, medium, and long-term benchmarks and goals as projects progress. • Utilize internal or external software tools to manage multiple ongoing projects, and make available to the Associate Vice Chancellor near real-time progress data. • Notify the Associate Vice Chancellor of emerging challenges with meeting pre- established deadlines and goals associated with multiple ongoing projects. • Serve as primary liaison between the Associate Vice Chancellor and subordinate leaders regarding project management goals. | 25% | Strategic Initiatives 1 | • Lead conceptual development/planning and oversee implementation of original Office of Campus and Community Safety initiatives and key projects.
