POSITION SUMMARY

The UCLA Center on Parking Policy seeks a dynamic and experienced Staff Director to lead its newly established center. This new translational institution aims to bridge academic research, public policy, and planning practice with a focus on parking reform. The Director will support operations management, and sharing research and policy insights with a wide audience. The position involves translating complex research into accessible, plain-English materials such as policy briefs and research syntheses that are useful for practitioners and policymakers—for example, explaining the costs of minimum parking requirements and analyzing observed impacts after they are repealed. The Director will also lead the development of case studies, especially those profiling cities and states outside of major progressive urban centers, to highlight parking reforms across a range of geographic and political settings.

Another important aspect of the role is help lead the Center's communications efforts. This includes raising the visibility of parking-related research through media outreach, social media engagement, and building a dedicated website. The Director will also facilitate the development of a research agenda that identifies knowledge gaps and sets priorities for future studies. Finally, the position involves designing and organizing short courses aimed at mid-career municipal staff. These courses may be delivered in partnership with professional organizations such as the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and could offer continuing education credits through platforms like LinkedIn or AICP. In addition to training, the goal is to foster lasting peer networks among municipal staff working on or interested in parking reform.
