POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Coordinator leads LOSH education programs designed to meet the needs of Southern California's diverse workforce, with a particular focus on statewide worker training and leadership development initiatives for which LOSH serves as the Southern California lead. Works with other LOSH staff and community-based partners to assess needs and identify target audiences in the region; design and develop curricula and educational materials related to labor and employment law, injury and illness prevention, skills building and leadership development; and implement and evaluate training programs in English and Spanish. Establishes and maintains relationships with government agency representatives, local and regional labor unions, worker and community-based organizations, employment law agencies, employers, and other UC-based programs. Facilitates trainings and workshops, leads program evaluation activities, and provides technical assistance and consultation to workers on interpreting laws and regulations and navigating various claim processes. Represents LOSH in local, state and national meetings. Meets reporting and deliverable requirements as established by funders and the university. Contributes to grant proposals and participates in LOSH organizational and staff development initiatives.

LOSH works with the most vulnerable workers to promote health and safety in the workplace. We train and educate workers, conduct research and promote collaboration among government officials, employers, unions and the community to improve conditions that are unhealthy for all.

Develop and Implement Education Programs

Coordinate with LOSH staff, funders, and statewide partners to establish program goals and objectives, and ensure adherence to benchmarks and timelines; Design outreach and education initiatives to meet the needs of diverse target audiences; Create curricula and educational materials on employment and labor law and occupational safety and health topics synthesizing relevant policy resources; Develop and maintain tools for tracking program activities across teams of contributors; Conduct program evaluation activities and use results to inform subsequent program updates and future initiatives; analyze problems as they arise and determine solutions.

Training Coordination and Course Facilitation

Maintain schedule of training courses; Convene and facilitate training sessions and workshops, including train-the-trainer courses, for staff and worker-leaders of various community-based organizations, to be delivered in both in-person and online and in English and/or Spanish; Coordinate with LOSH staff and consultant-instructors to serve as course facilitators; Lead or co-lead trainings with LOSH staff and consultant-instructors.

Technical Assistance and Consultation on Labor and Employment Law

Provide technical assistance and consultation services to workers and worker organizations on interpreting laws and regulations and navigating various claim processes; Stay up-to-date on evolving policy related to employment and labor law at the state and federal levels; Monitor relevant listservs, media sources, journals, and other information outlets; Participate in community meetings, workshops, and other events as appropriate; Keep LOSH staff and project team members updated on new policies relevant to programmatic goals.

Reporting and Funder Relations

Serve as LOSH liaison with program officials to ensure coordination and compliance with funder requirements; Ensure timely and accurate completion of all reporting activities; Represent LOSH in meetings and workshops sponsored by funders and program collaborators.

LOSH Operational Activities

Convene program team meetings to coordinate specific activities and initiatives; Assist LOSH Director and other staff with reports and presentations related to program activities; Contribute to contract and grant proposals; Participate in LOSH staff meetings, strategic planning meetings, special events, and in-service programs.
