POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Hybrid Cloud & Hosting Services will lead the execution of the strategic vision, modernization, and management of UCLA's hosting infrastructure, ensuring scalability, resilience, security, and cost efficiency. This role will drive cloud-first adoption, data center consolidation and optimization, and a transition away from legacy hosting technologies to deliver a modern, high-performing IT environment that supports UCLA's academic, research, and administrative missions. This position will work alongside the Executive Director, Network Services and the Director, Platform Services to forge a strategic full-stack infrastructure leadership team.

 

The Director, Hybrid Cloud & Hosting Services will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.


Department Summary

Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure Services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown.

 

The IT Hosting organization that the Director will lead manages data center facilities, cloud facilities, BCDR, and Infrastructure Optimization, enabling UCLA to host IT infrastructure safely, securely, and with a best in class performance and run rate.

Hosting Infrastructure Strategy & Modernization

•Develops and executes UCLA’s Digital Foundry hosting strategy, ensuring alignment with a cloud-first approach and data center transformation.

•Leads the transition from legacy hosting technologies (e.g., VMware, Mainframe) to more modern solutions.

•Oversees Data Center as a Service (DCaaS) offerings to deliver scalable, efficient, and reliable hosting solutions.

•Ensures hosting infrastructure supports high availability, security, and cost-effective service delivery.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

•Leads disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) planning, ensuring minimal downtime and data resilience.

•Conducts regular DR testing and maintain compliance with security and industry standards.

•Implements automated failover, backup, and recovery solutions for UCLA’s critical hosted services.

•Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) plans to ensure organizational resilience.

•Coordinates with cross-functional teams to conduct regular DR and BC testing, identify potential risks, and ensure all systems are prepared for recovery scenarios.

•Leads technology strategy for data center facilities, security policies, data center vendors, hardware/software enhancements, and network resources.

Customer Service

•Acts as a trusted advisor to UCLA IT leadership, ensuring hosting services align with business needs.

•Works closely with the Executive Director of Network Services and the Director of Platform Services to ensure seamless IT service delivery across hosting, network, and platform infrastructure.

•Works closely with Digital Foundry, Security, and Customer Success organizations to ensure alignment with their strategies and demands

•Builds and maintains strong relationships with customers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure that consistent, reliable service is delivered to a range of university stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

•Implements a Command Center & Monitoring as a Service framework for real-time visibility into IT hosting infrastructure.

•Oversees capacity planning, performance tuning, and resource optimization for hosting services.

•Defines and enforces SLAs, KPIs, and operational benchmarks to maintain hosting reliability and uptime.

•Collaborates with vendors and partners to ensure cost-effective and cutting-edge hosting solutions.

•Collaborates with Customer Success organization on best-in-class ITIL and CMDB approaches.

•Leads the strategic visioning of improvements for IT hosting infrastructure. Drives a culture of continuous improvement for team members that prioritizes innovation, efficiency, and effectiveness.

•Maintains leading-edge currency with technology, standards & best practices.
