GENERAL DIRECTION - Indicates that the incumbent receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work, and typically formulates policy for this area but does not necessarily have final authority for approving policy.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Implementation Specialist (IS) working closely with VIP and COE on Veteran Resilience and Recovery leadership, will guide the development of Veteran Engagement Councils (VEC) and veteran-led community groups, in all supportive housing sites located on the West Los Angeles VA campus. The IS will manualize and refine the VEC approach; build buy-in among housing providers to host VECs; train and support veterans to lead VECs; and establish a network through which VECs contribute feedback on VA campus housing and service developments. In addition, the IS will develop, conduct, and assist in training housing staff working on the West Los Angeles VA campus in methods of assertive engagement relevant to working with veterans with experience of homelessness.


Department Summary

The Veterans Initiatives and Partnerships (VIP), and UCLA/VA Center of Excellence (COE) on Veteran Resilience and Recovery, through research and training activities, aims to improve health and social outcomes and recovery for Veterans who are homeless and at high risk for behavioral health disorders, including mental and substance use disorders, as well as other at-risk and underserved Veteran populations. Through our outreach and engagement efforts, we strive for improved Veteran health and overall wellbeing, educational and vocational development, and Veteran-centric legal aid. VIP and COE also aim to foster the professional development of researchers, clinicians, and consumers who are committed to VIP and COE's primary mission.

Determine training and technical assistance needs among providers working in supportive housing sites on the VA campus.  Oversee the planning, delivery, and quality improvement of provider trainings.

Identify, socialize, and enroll veterans living on campus who will participate and lead VEC meetings. Identify, socialize, and enroll housing provider partners working on the WLA VA campus who can sponsor VEC meetings in their housing sites

Train and mentor veteran facilitators who will lead VEC meetings at each housing site

Develop and structure communication among the network of VEC providers to allow sharing of information.  Develop and structure communication between the network of VEC providers and VA leaders who can use VEC feedback to guide service planning and service delivery

Generate regular VEC meeting minutes, VEC progress reports, training delivery summaries, and feedback summaries, including slide decks, to be shared with UCLA VIP leadership, GLA VA housing leadership, GLA VA stakeholders, and other oversight bodies.

Compile relevant trainings used in other treatment contexts, evaluating their relevance to Los Angeles County, and considering implementation with partners

Plan and supervise the development of a portfolio of intervention materials including manuals, online and skill-building group curricula for providers such as training videos, identification of relevant peer-reviewed research articles, popular media, and other training materials
