POSITION SUMMARY

CCPR seeks a public health scholar, survey researcher and advanced data scientist to support the work of the Periodic Assessment of Trajectories of Housing, Homelessness and Health (PATHS) monthly longitudinal survey of the unhoused population of Los Angeles. The successful candidate will be required to maintain the following skills/contributions: 1) management of all consolidated institutional review board (IRB) protocols in UCLA IRB systems, 2) development of integrated complex Qualtrics survey workflows for prescreen, baseline and monthly followup surveys, 3) develop real-time flexible data analysis and visualization templates in R for univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis including difference-in-difference, attrition-weighted, multiple imputation and Poisson mixed effects models; 4) lead publication of scientific papers and policy reports to government/provider partners, 5) supervise recruitment, methodology and analysis for evaluation of field medicine programs; 6) supervise project staff engaged in field recruitment, distribution of participant incentives, data cleaning and other essential tasks.

 

 


Department Summary

This position is housed within the California Center for Population Research at UCLA (CCPR), which is an interdisciplinary community of scholars committed to advancing research on the demographic and social determinants of health and understanding how health influences population dynamics and socioeconomic wellbeing. CCPR fosters innovative research by providing a collaborative environment designed to enhance the quality of scholarly work and its impact, including research and computing resources and pre- and post-award grant services. The community of scholars at CCPR is dynamic and growing, with over 150 faculty affiliates. Over 50 PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and research staff are in residence at the Center. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Develop data analysis and visualization templates

Leadership on data analysis includes both the analysis of the full longitudinal dataset in R as well as exporting various analytic files for co-authors to use in R or Stata.

 

For R templates, the applicant would be expected to develop templates, work with co-authors to refine them, and update data output to incorporate newly-acquired data. These templates would cover univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis including: 1) difference-in-difference, 2) attrition-weighted, 3) multiple imputation and 4) Poisson mixed effects models.

 

In addition, the applicant would be expected to share and provide support for data analytic files in R or Stata that could be shared with co-authors wishing to conduct their own analysis.

Prepare manuscripts for publication

Lead publication of scientific papers and policy reports to government/provider partners, including 1) facilitation of communication between coauthors, 2) communication with journal, 3) submission and tracking, 4) appropriately acknowledging funding sources and contributors, 5) preparation of citations, and 6) linking of articles to relevant NIH grants in Pubmed.

Develop survey workflows

Develop integrated complex Qualtrics survey workflows for prescreen, baseline and monthly follow-up surveys, including 1) planning, managing and documenting the overall workflow from prescreen to baseline to monthly surveys, 2) programming or supervising the programming of Qualtrics survey code, 3) developing Qualtrics user dashboards for tracking survey completion and univariate tabs; 4) maintaining regular analysis and checks of Qualtrics workflows to identify missed/incomplete surveys and fraudulent surveys; 5) as needed, developing new workflows that incorporate new recruitment modalities; 6) supervising the distribution of electronic gift card incentives through Tango.

Manage IRB protocols

Manage all consolidated institutional review board protocols in IRB systems, including: 1) monitoring compliance with IRB certification of all team members, 2) submitting proposals for review, 3) applying for modifications to previously approved IRBs, 4) obtaining IRB continuing reviews or PI assurances annually, 5) submitting post-approval reports of unanticipated problems, and 6) submitting closure reports.

Supervision of field medicine cohort study

Supervise recruitment, methodology and analysis for evaluation of field medicine programs, including 1) oversee the recruitment of subjects, 2) examination of proposed evaluation methodology and, 3) proofread the analysis of results.

Supervise project staff

Supervise project staff engaged in field recruitment, distribution of participant incentives, data cleaning and other essential tasks, including 1) weekly team meetings, 2) quarterly individual performance reviews, 3) contribution to and monitoring of each student’s Individualized Development plan (IDP).
