POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Director of MBA Career Advising and as a member of the Parker Career Management Center (Parker), the Career Advisor – Finance Focus serves the career development and job search needs of UCLA Anderson's Full-Time MBA (FTMBA) students (approximately 600 students). Parker Career Advisors provide general and foundational career advising and guidance to all FTMBA students, and this Finance Focus role will have primary emphasis on those pursuing careers in financial services or finance-functional roles, including investment banking (IB), investment management (IM), Private Equity (PE), Venture Capital (VC), Corporate Finance, and related fields. The advisor will also actively contribute to developing and implementing Parker's comprehensive career services and programs, including:

 

 One-on-one career advising

 A two-quarter career course

 The Anderson Career Teams (ACT) peer coaching program

 Job search skills workshops and career development events

 Employer engagement and recruiting programs

 

The Career Advisor – Finance Focus works closely with MBA students to provide wholistic and transformational career perspectives, while supporting their short and long-term career development and goals in finance-related industries and functions.

 

Work Schedule: The position follows a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote). Additional days and extended hours may be required during peak seasons.

 

Benefits: This exempt position offers a base salary range of $110,000-$120,000 per year plus benefits available to full-time employees of UCLA.

Department Summary

Parker Career Management Center (“Parker”) at UCLA Anderson partners with the school’s approximately 600+ Full-time MBA (FTMBA) students in their career development and job search process. The Parker team consists of career advisors, employer relations and operations staff members and works together to provide wholistic and foundational career advising and job search guidance as well as facilitate recruiting opportunities for students to connect with a range of employers across a variety of MBA-relevant industries and functions.

Lead Finance Immersion program during the summer session for IB, IM students including integration of outside vendors (TTS and Invictus) 

Design and deliver presentations, panel discussions, and workshops on networking within finance, early technical interview preparation for IB focused students, and   internal pitch presentations for students interested in IM/PE/VC

Leverage creativity to organize effective programming addressing the unique needs of students targeting finance roles throughout their MBA journey

Contribute to non-finance related career development programming and resources as part of the Career Advising team

Student Career Advising

Provide tailored one-on-one advising to help students pursuing finance careers, including:

 Self-assessment and goal setting specific to finance roles.

 Networking and relationship building with finance professionals.

 Researching and targeting firms in investment banking, investment management, private equity, and other finance sectors.

 Crafting finance-focused resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles.

 Preparing for technical and behavioral finance interviews and compensation negotiations.

Track progress and career outcomes of assigned set of MBA students throughout their MBA journey.

Develop deep expertise in finance career paths, including industry trends, recruitment processes and timelines, and skill requirements, to effectively advise students.

Collaborate with student finance clubs, alumni, and employers to stay current on finance industry developments and facilitate connections.

Finance-Focused Corporate Outreach and Employer Relations

Partner with Parker account managers, business development manager, Fink Center for Finance, and Price Center for Entrepreneurship to build and strengthen relationships with finance employers, including investment banks, asset management firms, and private equity firms.

Engage with recruiters, alumni, investment professionals, advisors at other B-school programs, and corporate representatives to discuss MBA hiring trends in finance and best practices for recruitment.

Track and analyze finance employer hiring practices, establish banking timelines/policy and communicate out to banks, and set KPIs to support student outcomes and employer engagement strategies.

Anderson Career Teams (ACT)

Run initial ACT sessions during summer quarter as part of finance recruiting prep that continues into fall quarter.  Serve as the primary liaison for finance-focused ACT groups, a peer coaching program led by second-year students for first-year students.

Contribute to continuing development and implementation of ACT program and various related resources for both coaches and first year students.

Interview and select ACT coaches and manage the execution of the program for finance industry verticals.

Student Club Engagement

Act as the lead career advisor for finance-related student professional clubs, providing guidance on career-related programming and corporate engagement.

Partner with finance clubs to develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and industry-specific events such as finance career treks and firm information sessions.

Networking and Representation

Represent UCLA Anderson at networking events, conferences, and recruiting forums on and off campus.

Serve as a liaison between students, other Anderson departments, alumni, and finance professionals to foster meaningful career connections.
