POSITION SUMMARY | Under general supervision of the Football Chief of Staff, the Executive Director of Athlete Engagement and External Affairs will support football student-athletes in their pursuits in the classroom, community and in competition. The primary function is to support the office of Academic Excellence for football and monitor student-athlete academic progress. Successful candidate will serve as an intermediary between the Football Coaching Staff and the Office of Academic Excellence (OAE) staff in academic matters. This position acts within NCAA, UC, UCLA, Big Ten and department policies to maximize the efficiency and time for student-athletes within the Football program to prepare them for success in life after graduation. Additionally, this role supports the implementation of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for football student-athletes while fostering their personal, professional, and academic growth. Additionally, this role will focus on building strong external relationships with alumni, donors, and business leaders to enhance NIL opportunities and raise funds to support athlete development programs and athletic department initiatives. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Student-Athlete Academic Development | • Work with Associate Athletic Director of Academic Excellence, Associate Director of SA Success, to support their Academic Plans for football student-athletes. • Work closely with the Office of Academic Excellence Learning Specialists, Academic Mentors, and College Academic Counselor to properly monitor, track and report the academic progress of student-athletes. • Partner with academic services to support student-athletes' academic success and personal growth. • Review and analyze the daily report provided by the office of Academic Excellence, of any missing assignments or relevant information from the day. • Facilitate weekly in person meetings for updates to football personnel and coaching staff. • Serve as the main point of contact to the football Head Coach regarding academic development. | 50% | Student-Athlete Academic Development | • Collaborate with OAE staff in the development of post-graduate plans for student-athletes. • Maintain detailed individual student-athlete academic records. | 0% | Compliance, Eligibility, Recruiting and Admissions | • In preparation for incoming student-athletes (freshman and transfers) review and analyze transcripts prior to submitting for admissions. • Work closely with Compliance staff to gain a strong understanding of NCAA rules and regulations as well as UC, department, conference and campus policies to aid in the recruiting process. • Work to enhance the recruiting experience of prospective student-athletes as needed. • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during recruiting events. • Develop and present academic information sessions for small and large groups during recruiting visits. | 10% | NIL and External Affairs | • Build and maintain relationships with local and national businesses, alumni, and community organizations to identify NIL opportunities for student-athletes. • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support NIL-related initiatives. • Promote the athletic department's vision and goals to the community to enhance visibility and attract future donors and sponsors. • Identify and cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and corporate partners to secure funding and sponsorship opportunities. • Work with the athletics development team to organize NIL fundraising events and campaigns that align with departmental priorities. | 35% | Rules Compliance | • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.” • The DIA s governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), and University of California System.
