POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Stores Supervisor and other SRS staff as designated by the Stores Supervisor, perform general services support in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry's SRS unit; (Shipping & Receiving, Research Stores: Chemical / Equipment / Office Supplies / Solvent Storage / Photocopy Center); as well as faculty support services. Support with store restocking and periodic physical inventory of SRS supplies, chemical storage and reprographic supplies. Perform customer service functions for faculty, staff, students and visitors, and complete any related administrative follow-up as required. This includes but is not limited to; frequent moving and unloading of large appliances; equipment; office and laboratory furnishings; assembly and simple installation of such items, handyman duties, cleaning, dusting and vacuuming SRS areas and job related spaces, provide clerical support and computer/web based job-time reporting related for SRS activities; responding to requests for stock items; photocopy related services; receiving and processing incoming and outgoing SRS related materials / documents / packages / shipments; maintenance of the SRS areas to ensure a clean and safe work environment and completion of any urgent or unscheduled assignments as needed and defined by the Stores Supervisor in support of the needs of the department.

The Department employs over 50 professors pursuing research in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. The goals of this research include synthesizing complex natural products and new nano-materials required to solve the many health and environmental crises facing our planet, and illuminating the molecular mechanisms that regulate the decoding of genetic information.

RESEARCH STORES

1. Process web, verbal, telephone and written material requests.  2. Read & respond to emails as required.   3. Complete SRS/Operations jobs time sheet on daily basis.   4. Execute computerized inventory system programs as defined by supervisor.   5. Support as needed with physical and computerized stock check; restocking, organizing, cleaning, dusting and general inventory monitoring and operations.  6. Receive, log-in and distribute common and hazardous substances in a safe manner, by loading, unloading and delivering materials as required.  7. Support as needed with stock check and monitoring of all SRS supplies, related equipment and systems.   8. Implement appropriate university security procedures in receipt of confidential and examination materials that require duplication and production.

SHIPPING AND RECEIVING

1. Assist faculty, staff, students and visitors with service requests.  2. Exercise proper web, email, telephone procedures and courtesy.  3. Advise faculty, staff, students and visitors regarding availability of goods and services.    4. Receive, log-in and distribute common and hazardous substances in a safe manner, by delivering, loading and unloading materials using computer and paper based tracking systems.

OPERATIONS SERVICES

1. Read & respond to emails as required.  2. Review and complete work orders, assignments and projects on SRS web calendar and job board as directed by supervisor.  3. Review and determine job orders/projects & priorities with supervisor.  4. Perform SRS jobs as defined by following established safety guidelines and departmental procedures and/or verbal instructions.  5. Operate, maintain, and make minor repairs/adjustments using a variety of power and hand tools. 6. Performs semi-skilled handyman tasks independently or as part of SRS.   7. Clean, dust and vacuum SRS, storage, shop and related SRS job assignment areas.   8. Inspect, replenish and service SRS machines and related equipment and supplies.  9. Prepare work for painting by washing walls, filling or smoothing surfaces, masking areas on rooms and/or equipment. 10. Assist the Operations Manager and/or Stores Supervisor by providing hands-on support in the relocation and/or setup of faculty offices, seminar rooms, conference rooms, student offices and research laboratories.   a. Using various types of moving equipment such as power lifts, palette jacks, side carts, dollies, etc., assist in the transportation of instructional and research equipment, materials and furniture throughout the department. b. Assist with the installation and removal of whiteboards, bulletin boards, display boards, and other instructional media as required or requested. c. Setup and remove chairs and tables in class rooms, conference rooms and for outdoor events. As requested for conferences, seminars, instruction, faculty meetings, etc.
