POSITION SUMMARY | Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean of Academic Programs, the Portfolio Director shares academic and administrative responsibility for the development, ongoing evaluation, academic quality and supervision of the courses, certificates, specializations, and xOpen seminars in an academic portfolio. The incumbent monitors changing trends relevant to this portfolio, and forms partnerships to implement area of expertise initiatives. The incumbent will manage the many existing industry relationships with relevant companies and professionals with the primary goal of building offerings and revenue growth for the Division. In efforts to expand and reach underserved communities, responsibilities will include statewide and local outreach efforts. The incumbent serves as a member of various ad hoc committees and task forces convened at the discretion of the Director and/or the Dean's Office. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate outstanding leadership, excellent managerial and interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm for UCLA Extension's public service educational mission. The incumbent also represents the institution and the portfolio in a number of regional networks and professional associations related to the education field. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Academic Program Development & Staff Management | 1. Provide academic oversight for course offerings with approximately [xx] annual total enrollments, and approximately [$xx] million in annual revenue. 2. Develop portfolio offerings (seminars, curses, specializations, certificates and custom programs) in accordance with the requirements of UC statewide, as well as UCLA Extension policies and standards, as well as other relevant state agencies, as applicable. 3. Plan and promote effectively continuing education programs, courses, seminars throughout the Greater Los Angeles community and through custom-tailored programs designed for a global audience. 4. Develop strategies to reach and support underserved communities locally and throughout the state. 5. Develop and implement established procedures for maintaining the quality of all continuing education programs, conference/seminar offerings and special programs. 6. Coordinate regular programmatic reviews of courses and certificates in accordance with UCLA Extension policy and procedure. Propose and coordinate revisions to programs as needed. 7. Develop, implement and maintain continuous improvement plans and evaluation metrics for all continuing education programs, including current content, AEDI strategies in teaching, instructor development, and routine data collection from stakeholders (students, instructors, employers, Advisory Boards) to evaluate progress. 8. Maintain programs in accordance with applicable requirements and standards, including appropriate data collection, data analysis, and data archiving. 9. Screen applications, interview candidates, and either make selection decisions or recommend individuals for hire. 10. Train and assign work to new and continuing employees. Provide guidance on performance standards and University procedures. 11. Independently conduct performance evaluations, including communication with subordinates. 12. Make recommendations for employee incentive awards and salary increases including merits and reclassifications. 13. Determine what discipline should be imposed for subordinates, with authority to apply such, and/or submits/recommends same to higher level management. | 40% | Instructor Recruitment | 1. Recruit, assist in the selection, and orient a diversified array of qualified instructors for courses and programs, with a focus on instructors who are familiar with AEDI. 2. Regularly and consistently evaluate instructor performance and provide supervision consistent with meeting departmental and institutional quality, and enrollment goals. | 20% | External Relations | 1. Develop and maintain positive and productive collaboration with relevant UCLA faculty and administration. Expand the partnerships with the UCLA community, regional networks, and other agencies that seek collaboration. 2. Convene and coordinate advisory board meetings for assigned certificate programs. 3. Regularly attend outside regional university network and professional association meetings and events related to the portfolio's industry. | 20% | Marketing & Promotion | 1. Determine new trends and changing educational needs of the communities served by UCLA. Collaborate on the planning, promotion, and marketing of educational programs, courses, seminars and conferences throughout the state to meet those needs. 2.
