POSITION SUMMARY

This role is responsible for ensuring that content is suitable for publication via CEB's digital publishing and print publishing workflows (when applicable). The incumbent will validate that source file materials meet the structural and styling requirements of the publishing technology systems. The incumbent will exercise discretion in ensuring that the style and structure of content is optimized for the high-quality output as well as operational efficiencies. 


Department Summary

We are Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), providing innovative resources and practice-oriented tools that help attorneys better serve their clients. From online legal research and MCLE to forms solutions and print books, CEB strives to make high-quality legal information accessible to everyone, from rural solo practices to large law firms.

 

Founded in 1947, CEB is one of California’s oldest and most prestigious legal information and continuing legal education providers. CEB publishes judgments of California case law, practical guidance for attorneys and, CLE all in a variety of practice areas and formats e.g. print, online and, in-person.  CEB operates as a nonprofit within the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  We are an arm of UCLA Extension as we provide continuing education needed for licensed lawyers and other legal professionals.


Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Style Validation 

A1: Independently manage the end-to-end content validation process to ensure that CEB’s content meets digital-first publishing criteria, meets print product specifications, and does not deviate from editorial and publishing quality mandates. A2: Independently execute all publishing workflows necessary to generate Word to CXML to HTML conversion process. A3: Independently evaluate all warning and error reports from automated style.A4: Perform a detailed comparison of content in both HTML and PDF outputs to ensure content meets publishing requirements in both formats and meets CEB’s digital-first publishing mandate. A5: Identify any content elements that need correction, recommend methods to derive best output, working with internal and external teams, resolving issues within the source file

Structure Validation 

A6: Certify source content compliance with system requirements. A7: Create tracking and reporting systems for validation steps. A8: In collaboration with department management, create and report on key performance indicators.

Testing & Quality Assurance 

B1: Act as key stakeholder in identifying opportunities for publishing system upgrades, automations, and enhancements. B2: Act as key stakeholder and leader in testing any publishing system upgrades, enhancements, and automations. B3: In collaboration with department leadership, recommend and develop quality improvement initiatives based on validation findings. B4: Collaborate with department leadership on quality assurance projects.

Technical Support & Subject Matter Expertise Consultation

C1: Act as internal publishing technology expert, providing guidance on usage and best practices for all content teams  C2: Act as internal publishing technology expert, advising colleagues and content teams on style and structure best practices for content. C3: Identify key editorial issues in content and train content teams on resolving errors prior to validation. C4: Consult with content teams on new and novel style and structural elements to content and best practices for publishing.
