POSITION SUMMARY

The Petrovic lab is seeking to hire a motivated Staff Research Associate who will provide crucial technical support within the research laboratory. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including the maintenance of laboratory equipment, handling ordering and receiving processes, managing inventory, and preparing standard molecular biology reagents. In this role, you will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) in various molecular and cell biology techniques, including but not limited to PCR, molecular cloning, plasmid DNA isolation, bacterial culture, protein purification with automated chromatographic equipment, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoreses, mammalian cell culture, and mammalian cell transfections and infections. The ideal candidate will be organized, motivated to learn, and pay attention to detail.

Laboratory Research

1. Perform molecular and cell biology laboratory techniques including, but not limited to PCR, molecular cloning, plasmid DNA isolation, bacterial culture, protein purification with automated chromatographic equipment, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoreses, mammalian cell culture, and mammalian cell transfections and infections.

2. Collect data, maintain a lab notebook, and prepare written reports on results and laboratory methods.

3. Develop plans and organize techniques to solve research problems.

Laboratory Operations

1. Order, stock, and inventory supplies and chemicals.

2. Prepare common molecular biology reagents for general lab usage.

3. Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous chemicals.

4. Maintain and keep laboratory equipment in good working order.

5. Maintain a neat lab environment.

6. Ensure proper safety procedures, safe facilities, and proper laboratory practices and hygiene.

7. Keep abreast of current state, federal, OSHA, EHS, and other regulations governing laboratory safety and hazardous chemicals.

8. Coordinate activities and ensure compliance with UCLA facilities, operations, and other offices.
