POSITION SUMMARY | Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director of Marketing, the Director of Marketing will be responsible for the oversight, development, and implementation of the Department's marketing and promotional efforts of assigned sports and special events. The Director of Marketing will oversee assigned full-time and part-time staff. This person will be responsible for assigning tasks to achieve the overall goals of the Marketing Department and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, including enhancing the fan experience and generating revenue. The hiring, training and evaluation of assigned staff will be the responsibility of the incumbent. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Marketing | • Assist as the marketing, promotions and in-game experience lead for assigned sports. • Develop, write and implement marketing plans, promotional programs, & advertising schedules that will increase attendance, revenue and exposure for assigned sports. ◦ Provide a comprehensive review and evaluation of plans following each season. • Maintain regular communication with Head Coach or Director of Operations, and department staff members in formulating the marketing plan for assigned sports and collaborate cross functionally to deliver and drive results to meet the departmental and team goals & objectives. | 50% | Marketing | • Oversee and direct game presentation efforts, including in-game promotions, fan giveaways, game atmosphere, video board operations, public address announcer, and direction of interns, students and volunteers for assigned sports. • Develop and coordinate marketing plan for conference and national championship events that UCLA hosts when assigned sport is involved. • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Digital Marketing & Branding on all digital marketing efforts, including overall strategy, creative production, content development, copy writing, scheduling and relationship management. This includes distribution of the creative plan and overall vision for in-event videoboard content, welcomes, themes and student-athlete/coach-related content. | 30% | Game Day Responsibilities | • In coordination with staff, develop and implement entertainment elements for UCLA home games and select team events that enhance the fan experience and generate revenue. • Work with entities to develop programming to include videoboard content, pyrotechnics and special effects, on-field/court recognitions, halftime shows, sponsor activations, in-game promotions, fan contests and other entertainment elements. • Plan and execute game scripts for assigned sports which includes communicating the game information for Band, Cheer and Dance, Mascots, Public Address Announcer, DJ and Audio team. • Develop ideas for game-day giveaways that have a goal of increasing the overall fan experience. | 0% | Staff Management / Supervision | • Directly supervise assigned full-time and part-time staff; Provide leadership, guidance and supervision of daily activities, including strategic direction and goal setting. • Conduct annual performance reviews and provide regular feedback on staff’s performance, addressing issues and providing appropriate training to enable success. | 10% | Special Events | • Assist with creating and implementing special events for fans with the goal of increasing fan engagement, gameday attendance and ticket revenue.
