POSITION SUMMARY

UCLA Athletics is seeking an Associate Director of Broadcast Engineering to work with UCLA's Broadcast Operations Department. UCLA is seeking a successful individual will be a self-motivated, team-oriented, organized, problem solver that can orchestrate live event production needs.

 

UCLA Broadcast Operations Department produces events for Big Ten Network, Big Ten +, and other digital platforms, as well as in-venue video board displays. The Associate Director of Broadcast Engineering should be a self-starter who is organized and holds exceptional troubleshooting skills which will be required for innovative solutions to complex problems. This individual will collaborate with full, part-time, and student staff to oversee that all broadcast equipment is in good working order, is setup in proper manner, and is being operating appropriately. In addition, the position will be responsible for maintaining all broadcast infrastructure.

 

A successful candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced, multi-purpose space within a large organization that supports an intercollegiate athletics program with 25 teams and 700 student-athletes.  The individual will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of the UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics mission and goals, and comply with all NCAA and BIG Ten expectations.

Broadcast Engineering

 â€˘ Managing the day-to-day technical support, installation, repair, and maintenance of key infrastructure components of UCLA Broadcast Operations broadcast infrastructure.

 â€˘ Ensuring all camera and on-site setups are operating and transmission paths and feeds are functioning properly for each broadcast.

 â€˘ Work as a member of the live event team to identify, analyze, and resolve system problems as they arise.

 â€˘ Provide operational assistance and instruction to full, part-time, and student staff.

 â€˘ Work closely with the Big Ten Network to maintain technical knowledge that is required to meet network standards.

 â€˘ Prepare and maintain engineering paperwork and databases that pertain to broadcast equipment and performance.

 â€˘ Perform modifications according to engineering specifications and determine priorities regarding repair and maintenance.

 â€˘ Monitor inventory of replacement parts and other engineering supplies.

 â€˘ Participate in training and development to keep up to date in the lates technological advances in the broadcast space.

 â€˘ Assist with the acquisition of equipment and preparation of maintenance budgets.

 â€˘ Perform other related duties as assigned to engineering.

Video Engineering

 â€˘ Work closely with videoboard operations to ensure all videoboard technology is up to standard operations.

 â€˘ Assist with production team in maintenance and troubleshooting of videoboard related items.

 â€˘ Ensure videoboards are maintained and operational at all times for athletic events.

 â€˘ Assist with campus events, venue rentals, local and national television broadcasts to assist in their broadcasts engineering needs.

 â€˘ Work closely with facilities and event operations to provide required broadcast feeds for venue ingestion.

 â€˘ Review and assist campus related events that require use of videoboards and/or production room

 â€˘ Assist in staffing needs to effectively maintain and operate videoboards.

Financial and Asset Management

 â€˘ Work in collaboration with the Assistant AD of Broadcast Operations to support financial budget needs for daily operations, equipment, staffing and maintenance.

 â€˘ Follow campus and department procurement guidelines using transparent means and established financial parameters

 â€˘ Help maintain equipment inventory, maintenance, and acquisition.

 â€˘ Assist in budget development both on annual and long-term basis, including space and large item replacements and end of life needs

 â€˘ Assist in all assets related to venue videoboards and scoreboards in our athletic facilities as well as in the production control room.

Administrative

 â€˘ Understand department vision and goals and be able to match with production elements and needs of department to present the student-athletes, programs, department, campus and conference in the best possible manner.

 â€˘ Develop policies, procedures, and protocols reflecting industry best practices that best positions UCLA for success in regards to live broadcasts and videoboard production

 â€˘ Responsible for hiring, training, managing direct reports.

 â€˘ Keep up to date with current technological environment and trends that can impact operations and anticipate needs for the department in the short and long term on related items

 â€˘ Serve as an assistant for technical operations within athletic facilities (videoboards and video control room and related items)

 â€˘ Assist with the payroll submission and reconciliation for event staffing.

 â€˘ Prepare and maintain unit’s strategic plan as well as business continuity and operational plans for facilities and staffing

 â€˘ Participate in training and development programs to stay abreast of the latest in technological advances, especially related to venue and broadcast operations

 â€˘ Represent the athletic department and advise in technical areas with the University or outside production staffs as live television broadcasts.

 â€˘ Works closely with content creation, IT, Operations and other groups to resolve problems and assist in their areas of need
