SUPERVISION - Indicates that the incumbent performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to the supervisor’s guidelines.


POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Facilities, the Lead Custodian will lead custodial personnel in all aspects of facilities and custodial services. The Lead Custodian will make recommendations for corrective action within each unit to the Manager, Facilities in employee training and orientation. The Lead Custodian is responsible to maintain, disinfect, sanitize, and preserve the museum facility. Encourage safe working procedures and report any safety hazards to supervisor. In addition, the Lead Custodian acts as a subject matter expert and provides leadership to custodial staff who perform such tasks as: clean, dust, strip, wax, sweep, mop, polish, vacuum, replenish restrooms, and remove refuse/recycling throughout campus facilities, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, exteriors, etc. This position may work independently or as part of a team in assigned work areas. Oversees critical day-to-day operations in supervisor's absence. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.

1.  Perform full range of custodial maintenance duties in order to complete part or all of a given project. Assure adequate coverage of all work stations.

2.  Prioritize work assignments and assign work orders.

3.  Coordinate and discuss all aspects of project with supervision; plan, schedule and track progress of project; resolve concerns and issues in absence of supervision.

4.  Respond to emergency/non-emergency calls by assigning appropriate personnel.

5.  Set up furniture for programs and events based on floorplans and timeline sequences.

Administrative Tasks

1.  Provide custodial staff with job instructions including supplies, materials and equipment to be used, and the time schedule in which the job should be completed.

2.  Monitor job performance of subordinates and provide input to supervisor.

3.  Orally discuss work assignments with supervisor on daily basis in order to keep supervisor apprised of work progress and to resolve any problem(s) related to the job. Write daily reports regarding job performance, safety hazards, trouble calls, etc., for submission to supervision.

4.  Order, issue, and store all cleaning supplies and materials; secure equipment and supplies.

5.  Assist mail operations by delivering incoming packages, sorting mail, and operating the mail machine to process postage for outgoing mail.

1.  Maintain accurate hours worked on each job.

2.  Operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools and equipment related to the trade.

3.  Ensure and transport materials, equipment and personnel to and from job site expeditiously.

4.  Follow established safety procedures at all times including inspecting tools and equipment for signs of damage, malfunction or deterioration on a regular basis.

5.  Upon completion of work, clean up job site and return equipment, materials, tools, and radios to designated storage areas.

6.  Respond to off-hour emergencies and overtime as required.

7.  Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as requested by supervisor.
