POSITION SUMMARY

UCLA's sports championship history stands out as one of the most impressive of any university.  Our student-athletes perform at an elite level in their sports, studies, and public service.  As the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA)'s Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Revenue Officer, you will lead our revenue-generating efforts and join us in our commitment to invest in tomorrow's champions today. As the Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Revenue Officer, you are responsible for overseeing and optimizing revenue-generating operations and growth through various streams including ticket sales, sponsorships, multimedia rights, licensing and merchandising. You will directly supervise selected administrative areas, serve as a sport administrator and lead departmental initiatives, especially in the areas of revenue generation, communications, marketing, sales and service and resource allocation.  You will be responsible for overseeing several senior staff members and assigned coaches, and you will be charged with establishing and maintaining consistent and equitable policies for staff and coaches, and managing various administrative units of the department. You will serve on the DIA executive team and work as a collaborative partner to the Director of the DIA.  This executive role involves strategic planning, market analysis, and the development of innovative revenue streams to support the financial health and growth of the department. As Sport Administrator for assigned sport(s), you will insure that the assigned UCLA sport program(s) remains consistently ranked among the top in the country.

 • Devise and implement comprehensive revenue generation strategies, including identifying new market opportunities and optimize existing streams.  Set revenue targets and create plans to achieve them.

 • Prepare and manage the revenue budget for the department.  Conduct financial analysis to assess the performance of revenue-generating initiatives.  Provide regular reports to the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics and executive team on revenue performance and opportunities. Ensure transparency and accountability in revenue management practices.

 • Serve as a liaison between DIA and ASUCLA to optimize licensing and merchandise revenue.  Collaborate with other department staff to ensure the brand image in the marketplace is optimal for UCLA.

Revenue Generation

 • In conjunction with the DIA Sales & Service and Marketing teams as well as the University’s Central Ticket Office, develop and manage an immediate and long-term ticket sales and event revenue plan.  Oversee ticket sales strategies for all athletic events. Develop innovative ticket pricing and packaging to maximize attendance and revenue. 

 • In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer, collaborate on ticket and donor engagement campaigns that develop priority seating strategies that will support the planned growth of the program overall.  Oversee sales of premium seating for men’s basketball and football.

 • Manage brand positioning and ensure consistent messaging across all channels. Set the vision for digital marketing efforts, including social media, email marketing & content creation

 • Serve as the liaison between the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics and the multimedia rights holder, collectives and other related revenue-generating partners that will raise the profile of the program and promote increased corporate partnerships. Ensure fulfillment of contractual terms.

 • Work directly with the DIA Marketing team in the development of a strategic marketing plan that expands the current reach of the program utilizing the assets of the campus, institution and city. Implement strategies to enhance game day experience and increase fan engagement.

 • In partnership with the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics, and executive team, develop and implement a long-term plan that maximizes revenue, emphasizes efficient spending and establishes campus budgetary alignment to create long-term financial stability.

 • Provide administrative oversight and direction for assigned administrative units of the department.  This includes oversight of several senior staff members and assigned coaches.

 • Address high-level issues across a wide range of activities; assess situations, decide appropriate responses and take appropriate action.

 • Represent UCLA Athletics to all internal and external constituencies.

Strategic Planning and Executive Management

 • Working with support unit managers, provide overall guidance for policy and procedure development.  Lead support unit and department policy changes, ensuring necessary input to affect changes prior to implementation.

 • Conduct annual reviews of assigned support units to quantitatively and qualitatively measure the program’s success. Identify areas for improvement and new opportunities.  Develop and implement program enhancements.

 • Ensure all assigned units operate in compliance with University, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), and NCAA rules and regulations.

 • Supervise professional and support staff providing leadership, guidance and supervision of daily activities as needed.

 • Provide strategic direction and goal setting for direct reports.

 • Conduct annual performance reviews and provide regular feedback on employee’s performance, addressing issues and providing appropriate training to enable success.

Sport Administration

 • Direct and supervise assigned sport program(s) in all aspects, including the development, management, and review of operational activities and budget.

 • Understand program and department goals, and work with Head Coach and program leadership to achieve goals.

 • Articulate and execute program’s vision to constituents, campus and department staff.

 • Advise Director of Athletics on all program operations, including recruiting, equipment, uniforms and supplies.

 • Understand and assist in program personnel changes with Head Coach and leadership.

 • Represent program interests on campus issues as needed.

 • Ensure all aspects of program elements and student welfare issues are maintained for best possible competitive results.

Sport Administration

 • Collaboratively ensure all staff adhere to department, university and state systems, controls and policies.

 • Manage and administer championships for assigned sport(s), including traveling with assigned team(s) to all postseason competitions.

          Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.”

           The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), and University of California System.  The incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations.

           Review and retain all rules compliance disseminated by the DIA Compliance office.

           Report all NCAA and Conference violations.

           Sign the annual NCAA Certification of Compliance form.

           Complete the Athletically Related Income form annually.

           Comply with California State Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Law and adhere to mandatory reporting guidelines
