POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Production, the Costume Studio Supervisor oversees the planning, preparation, and execution of costumes for departmental productions. Work includes extensive collaboration and consultation with faculty advisor and student costume designers to ensure designs are successfully translated, realized, and executed as fully as possible. Creates, oversees, and manages costume creation and labor schedules for each production. Coordinates the scheduling of all measurements and fittings. Manages budgets for general studio area, labor, and individual productions. Purchases general studio and show specific materials and supplies. Hires and supervises career, limited, and student employees. Oversees students participating in labs and production classes. Maintains costume area equipment and inventory. Responsible for use of safe practices in the costume studio.

1 Organize, structure and facilitate the costume production department in support of the costume design program. 2  Interface with departmental faculty and staff to continually evaluate and improve the physical facility and working environment. Work to bring focus and identity to the needs of the costume area.  Advocate for the needs of the costume department. 3 Maintain necessary paperwork for the costume studio such as production recharges, deed of gift, costume rentals, allotment of dressing rooms, inventory and purchases. 4 Establish a regular maintenance schedule of all costume studio facilities, equipment, stock and related work areas complying with all EH & S standards and regulations. 5 Submit maintenance requests. 6 Read all the plays being produced.

7 Develop schedules for each production including design due dates, workshop construction timelines, measurements, fitting schedules and material acquisition time frames. 8 Coordinate with costume studio staff to manage calendars for each  staff member. 9 Coordinates weekly costume studio staff meetings and daily meetings with costume design students in production. 10 Attends Theater Production Staff Meetings, Production Meetings, and Production Design Developmental Meetings.  

11 Coordinates preliminary and final sign off meetings with faculty advisors and student designers to review the feasibility and functionality of the costume designs. 12 Create forms for actors in productions to respond to regarding  measurement info, costume fitting preferences, and dressing room  preferences.

13 Coordinate and schedule all measurement sessions and costume  fittings with the actors. 14 Attend dress rehearsals. 15 Interface with Faculty on non-production projects i.e. Design Showcase West. 16 Coordinate with the Director of Production dressing room assignments for department productions and rentals. 17 Organize and conduct the annual student costume studio orientation and studio meet and greet. 18 Update and maintain the costume studio handbook with the participation of the Costume Studio Staff. 19 Acquire all machinery, equipment, materials, and supplies for the costume studio, laundry room, dye room, department productions, and fabrication in coordination with the input and research from the costume studio staff.

1 Supervises, oversees and trains staff, over hires, teaching assistants and students in fabrication and installation of theatrical production elements from design, construction, alteration, purchase, and rental of costumes for the design and design specification provided by theatrical designers. Assign tasks and establish work schedules. 2 Supervises and trains staff and students in safe use, proper handling, and maintenance of all machinery, power and hand tools, and other shop and theater equipment in accordance with federal, state, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA guidelines and regulations. 3 Trains and supervises students in lab classes in conjunction with the Costume Staff and Teaching Assistants for that class.

4 Work closely with students in the production planning of the department by maintaining show schedules and following through on each of the show deadlines. 5 Coordinate daily oversight with students regarding costume budgets on productions. Work with Director of Production on any issues.

6 Oversees qualitative work standards for all projects. 7  Oversees production costume fittings assisting drapers and students designers as needed. 8 Assigns production projects to the costume studio staff inclusive of costume creation, modification and alteration. 9 Guides projects assigned to the costume design team in consultation with the faculty advisor. 10 Identifies and resolves work flow problems.

11 Conducts annual performance reviews for career costume staff. 12 Resolves personnel issues and takes corrective action in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements. 13 Conduct hiring process in coordination with the Direction of Production.

1 Allocate and monitor costume stock, materials, and maintenance budgets. Work with costume studio staff to find ways to efficiently use existing resources. Prepare cost estimates and monitor expenditures and purchasing records to ensure compliance with approved budgets.2 Maintain all records regarding inventory, forms, financial transactions, rentals, and purchases.  3 Manage all invoices for the costume studio and coordinate payment through Purchase Order, Pro Card transactions, or with Production Services Manager. 4 Make all online purchases for the costume design teams on each production. Manage all of the paperwork necessary to process those purchases as directed by Purchasing. 5 Assist Faculty with classroom purchasing as needed.

6 Supervise student designers purchasing needs and coordinate allocation of petty cash to designers. Help designers prepare receipts and paperwork for submission to reconcile petty cash allocations.
