POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the LVN Supervisor is responsible for overseeing clinic support services and supervising medical assistants, licensed vocational nurses, and floor leads at the Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center. Incumbent coordinates and assigns tasks and duties of all clinic support staff based on established protocols, policies, and procedures. Administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to, proving supervision of the clinical support staff, ensuring that all applicable policies and standards are always maintained, planning for, and adjusting staffing daily to maintain efficient and adequate operations, conducting the performance evaluation process, providing all necessary training for new and existing staff and the maintenance and upkeep of the practice to ensure patient safety. The LVN Supervisor will also work on special projects throughout the Ashe Center as needed.

 

The LVN Supervisor will work independently and prioritize tasks by using protocols, policies and procedures established by the Ashe Center and the University but will be under the general supervision of the Practice Manager. This position may supervise MAs, LVNs, and Orthopedic Technicians. The incumbent will meet with the Practice Manager and Medical Director periodically to assess performance. Overall performance will be evaluated annually.

Our comprehensive services include Primary Care, Gynecology Services, Immunizations, Travel Medicine, Physical Therapy, Specialty Clinics, Radiology & Laboratory, and Acupuncture – all under one roof! We are also pleased to offer additional services in the Ackerman Student Union: a full-service optometry center, U See LA Optometry, and the Bruin Health Pharmacy.

Clinical Support Supervision

Oversees clinical support at the Ashe Center, managing workflow systems for ongoing quality care. Supervises clinical support team, conducting interviews, hiring, and performance evaluations. Provides leadership in time management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving. Offers feedback to management and conducts formal meetings to address concerns. Coordinates onboarding and training for staff, ensuring proficiency in EMR and policies. Manages staff schedules and records of time off, while fostering staff development. Adjusts staffing as needed for efficient operations and maintains positive relationships with patients and colleagues. Collaborates with nursing department to ensure adherence to scope of practice. Facilitates problem-solving and communication among clinical staff.

Clinical Care Oversight & Back-Up

Provides oversight and backup for Sr LVN and medical assistant clinical care duties, including, but not limited to: Performing in-office procedures and tests, assisting clinicians with procedures, participating in team-based care, care coordination, administering vaccines, administering medications, specimen collection and transport, taking vital signs, referral assistance, rooming patients, cleaning and stocking rooms.

Administrative Functions

Oversees clinical assistants' scheduling and performance, coordinating with other leads and managers. Manages medicine and supply inventory, ensuring cleanliness and organization of clinical floor. Leads process improvement projects and onboarding of support personnel. Provides coaching, feedback, and training, participates in performance evaluations, and maintains policy manuals. Attends meetings, responds to risk management tasks, and ensures adherence to medical and legal standards. Communicates effectively with patients and staff, maintaining cultural sensitivity. Utilizes electronic medical records accurately and completes duties promptly and accurately. Adheres to job expectations and university policies.

Special Projects

Works on special projects that may arise throughout the Ashe Center as needed. Works with the Practice Manager on establishing goals for the clinical support and scheduling staff. Works with the Practice Manager in assuring that the practice continues to strive for excellence through continuing quality improvement projects.
