POSITION SUMMARY | Sr LVN will serve patients and assist clinicians of the Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center. The Sr LVN will carry out nursing functions according to written standing orders or clinician orders. The Sr LVN will act in the role of a Clinic Assistant when needed for both the primary care and specialty clinics within the Ashe Center. These duties will be performed and prioritized following established departmental guidelines, University policies, and community standards of nursing practice. The Sr LVN will function independently with minimal supervision. The Sr LVN will meet with the LVN Supervisor periodically to assess performance. Overall performance will be evaluated annually. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Act as part of the team of Nurses, Medical Assistants, Clinicians, and Staff | Participates in complex case management and supports panel management. Contributes to the running of the clinic by timely, accurate, and responsive performance. Maintain, promote, and model a team approach to patient care. Corresponds to patient and provider inquiries in electronic medical record. Participates in team huddles and conferences. Adds patients to tracking registries for ongoing disease management. Maintains awareness of specific and overall patient care/clinic operations. Answers phone calls to clinical areas, demonstrating good communication skills and discerning effective routing or problem resolution. Monitors daily clinic activities, delegates tasks, anticipates and addresses clinic, clinician, and patient needs. Demonstrates team cooperation to meet Ashe Center needs. | 30% | Examination/Consult Rooms & Nursing Stations Duties | Set-up exam rooms for procedures as indicated but not limited to the following: incision and drainage, laceration repair, skin biopsies, gynecology services, delayed menses, LARC, and diagnostic testing. Review stored items for expiration dates and discard as appropriate. Dispose of expired supplies from exam rooms and cabinets per appropriate policies/procedures. Assist in the preparation and sterilization of instruments per appropriate policies/procedures. Maintains safe and productive work environment. Cleans exam rooms after each visit following infection control procedures, including disposal of sharps. Stocks exam rooms and orders additional supplies based on established par levels. Carry out aseptic techniques. | 25% | Assist Clinicians for Office Visits | Prepare and assist clinicians with examinations and treatments. This includes special procedures in Specialty Clinics, Sports Medicine, Orthopedics, Allergy, ENT, Dermatology, OBGYN, and Neurology. Anticipate the needs of clinicians based on patient information or clinician practice style. Under direction of clinician, provides patient information handouts or directs students to electronic health information; reinforces instruction to students regarding self-care, referrals, and devices. Documents in electronic medical record and notify clinician of any pertinent patient response, such as refusal of orthopedic devices or referral. Assists clinicians in administering birth control devices (e.g. IUD, LARC, injections). Assists clinicians in applying/fitting various orthopedic devices. | 10% | Performs Independent Clinic Duties (Standing Orders) | Observe, record, and report to the appropriate Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and Physician the physical and mental condition of the patients and changes in condition. Immediately refers urgent/emergency patients to an available clinician. Performs tuberculosis skin testing, reading, and documentation according to written standing orders. Orders chest x-ray or blood work for patients with positive skin test according to written standing orders. Administers immunizations according to patient-specific or written standing orders. Accurately identify abnormal test results requiring special notification of clinician. Provide administrative support in the maintenance of appropriate logs and tracking devices. (e.g. for biopsies, reportable diseases). | 10% | Performs Orders and Other Clinic Responsibilities | Provides support and acts as a liaison between patients, family and providers. Responds to patients physical and emotional needs. Assists in the daily operations of the Allergy/Immunization Clinic. Monitors and orders supplies, maintains refrigerator and freezer temperature logs, and complies with state and federal immunization mandates. Performs prick testing for allergies according to clinician orders. Initiates, manages, and discontinues fluids utilizing standard intravenous equipment following clinician orders. Performs decontamination and high-level disinfection procedures, following infection control guidelines. Administers aerosolized bronchodilator medication. Collects specimens (including phlebotomy), labels, and transports them to the laboratory for analysis. | 10% | Administers Medications and Performs Procedures and Tests | Administers oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and PR medications according to clinician orders while following the proper Rights of Administration and record medications in patient's medical record. Correctly identify patients by using at least two patient identifiers. Performs procedures and tests such as but not limited to all POCT performed in the office (e.g. dipsticks, rapid strep, COVID-19, influenza, pregnancy, glucose), electrocardiogram (EKG), ear irrigation, basic first aid, injections, hot and cold applications, wound care, dressing changes, suture removal, pulmonary function testing, audiogram screening, spirometry, peak flow measurements, and oxygen administration and resuscitative measures. | 5% | Assist Patients for Office Visits and Record Keeping | Documents procedures accurately in electronic medical record. Accurately identifies and records the chief complaint and obtains needed information for clinical visit. Accurately measure vital signs (weight, height, vision, temperature, blood pressure, etc) and record results in patient charts. Identifies and reports abnormalities in vital signs. Evaluates and instructs patient in anticipated exam dress and/or positioning. Contacts students as directed by clinicians to obtain or relay information essential to their care, following state and federal guidelines. Provides patient education, support and assistance in accessing Ashe Center services, including eligibility checks/verification, fee information, appointment scheduling, and referral/transition to other Ashe or outside services. | 5% | Quality Improvement and Patient, Peer, and Community Relations | Develops positive patient relationships within the Ashe Center statement of patient's right and responsibilities.
