POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Director or designee, the Staff Social Worker supports the mission of CAPS and the University in providing the highest quality mental health services for the wide range of students at UCLA. Duties and responsibilities include counseling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples; group counseling, consultation, outreach, prevention and mental health education to the campus; emergency services; supervision; providing information and referral services. Accept overall direction from the Director or designee, and participates in meetings, committees and carries out necessary charting and data requirements. Act in a manner consistent with the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers and adheres to HIPAA requirements.

The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to support student development, empowerment and success through connection with dedicated clinicians who provide treatment that encourages Health, Healing and Hope. CAPS provides: Short-term, high- quality mental health treatment including assessment, consultation and case management; group and individual therapy; and psychiatry services. Campus mental health training and wellness education. Training and professional development for mental health providers. Connection to community resources and referrals.

Clinical Services

Provide comprehensive assessment and evaluation of students' presenting concerns. Provide brief counseling and psychotherapy to UCLA student body. Staff are expected to have competencies in working with a wide range of presenting concerns including minor adjustment problems, anxiety, depression, as well as major mental illness. Contribute to Group Therapy program by leading Therapy Groups, Wellness Skills Groups, and/or Wellness Workshops. Case management for individual therapy and group therapy caseload. Provide consultation to UCLA staff, faculty, and community. Provide emergency intervention to the full range of cases. Participate in aspects of CAPS training program as directed by CAPS executive director or designee.

Completes required entries in client records in a timely manner according to Departmental policy. Completes required computer data entry in a timely manner and according to Departmental policy. Participates in weekly mandatory case conference meetings and seeks additional case consultation as needed. Attends scheduled staff meetings and trainings.

Consultation, outreach, prevention, and education services

Participates in Departmental outreach programs to a diverse student population, including the traditionally underserved. Provides consultation to other staff, administrators, and faculty to enhance the social and personal functioning of students. Consults with campus departments about managing students with severe psychological problems.
