POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Hosting Facilities Analyst will ensure environmental, electrical and physical security services related to voice, data, wireless, 800 Mhz radio and cable television services for the UCLA campus. The IT Hosting Facilities Analyst will support the design, configuration, implementation, backup, and ongoing support of event monitoring systems, video recording systems, and development of standards and procedures related to supported infrastructure technologies including power supply, cameras, fire suppression systems, and environmental monitors. The Analyst will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day data center operations and servicing facilities to ensure efficient, reliable, and secure service is delivered to campus customers.

 

The IT Hosting Facilities Analyst will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.


Department Summary

Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure Services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown.

 

Data Center Services manages data center facilities enabling power delivery to the physical aspects of on-prem data center operations including power, cooling, fire suppression, monitoring of environmental conditions, and physical security of the spaces.


Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

1.Conducts the day-to-day operations of central IT hosting facilities, including monitoring and managing critical infrastructure, systems, and services.

2.Supports the design, configuration, implementation, backup, and ongoing support of event monitoring systems, video recording systems, and development of standards and procedures related to supported infrastructure technologies including power supply, cameras, fire suppression systems, and environmental monitors.

3.Provides technical and service support for basic to moderately complex problems and/or requests related to IT Services’ products and/or services.

Data Center & Facilities Services

1.Measures and records vital statistics and creates regular reports to track and analyze IT data center and hosting facility conditions. Records and maintains accurate incident and change records and logs.

2.Assists colleagues regarding process, procedure, and handling of service requests based on type, service level agreement, and/or priority.

3.Coordinates installation of hardware, computing and electrical equipment; provisions power circuits; installs cabinets and patch panels; and installs shelves, power strips, rails, and cables. Coordinates the termination, testing, and labeling of cross connects. Maintains adequate parts inventory and orders items, as necessary.

1.Provides ongoing support for DR and BC activities, including documentation, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts to align with industry best practices.

2.Regularly monitors and reviews data center performance metrics, including temperature, humidity, and power consumption, to identify and address any problems and maximize efficiency.

1.Works closely with team members and management to implement and support effective solutions for IT facilities.

Maintains currency with technology, standards, and best practices. Supports process improvement efforts within the team and across ITS.

2.Identifies opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement by leveraging the latest industry knowledge and maintaining currency with new technologies.

3.Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) plans to ensure organizational resilience.

4.Coordinates with cross-functional teams to conduct regular DR and BC testing, identify potential risks, and ensure all systems are prepared for recovery scenarios.

1.Conducts regular audits of IT hosting facilities to ensure that all equipment and systems are properly maintained and secured. Supports efficient and effective operations by adhering to a broad range of policies and standard operating procedures.

1.Develops and maintains documentation related to IT hosting facilities, including network diagrams, system configurations, and other technical documentation.
