POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for interacting with visitors to the Museum and safeguarding the Museum's collections, temporary exhibitions, property, employees, and visitors through highly proactive, appropriately preemptive, and immediately responsive action. Ensure visitors feel welcome at the museum and provide guidance to Museum Attendants on providing exceptional customer service to museum visitors. Inspects and patrols all museum spaces on foot: including onsite and office program spaces: monitors and operates computerized alarm, access, and closed circuit television systems; watched for, reports, and addresses potential security and safety hazards and problems; checks entrances and exits; and performs dispatch duties. Maintains and files security logs and reports, and performs other security duties as assigned by Supervisor and Management. In the absence of the Assistant Director of Events and Marketing, will guide deliveries and pickups by vendors for museum and rental events.  The incumbent is also responsible for serving as back up supervisor for up to 20-part time student Museum Attendants.

Also featured is the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics, culture and social action. The Fowler provides exciting, informative and thought-provoking exhibitions and events for the UCLA community and the people of greater Los Angeles and beyond.

MUSEUM PATROL, REPORT, AND RESPONSE

1. Regularly and proactively inspect and patrol Museum premises on foot, including but not limited to art galleries, event/program areas, offices, art collection and other storage, grounds, and Museum exterior, for any irregular or unauthorized conditions.  2. Be vigilant of and proactively check for, report, and address any real and potential safety and security threats, hazards, and unusual situations, including but not limited to fire, theft, accidents, trespassing, vandalism, and suspicious activities, throughout Museum premises; ensure Museum entrances and locks are properly secured; prevent unauthorized removal of property.  3. Communicate via radio or other necessary means with Central Monitoring and Access Control (Control") regarding all Security matters, including responding to issues, reporting problems, and requesting assistance. "

WEEKEND/RELIEF SUPERVISOR

1.Open and/or close the museum and activate the alarm system on weekends and also on weekdays when needed. 2.Act as supervisor.  3.              Provide security escorts for guests and/or contractors.  4.              Respond to alarms, taking the appropriate action to eliminate danger to persons or property. 5.              Conduct random inspections of the facility for problems or hazardous conditions.  6.Assist with solving problems involving the Museum Store when necessary.  7.Assist the Security and Operations Supervisor in the deployment of museum attendants, daily break schedules and daily operations of the galleries.  8.Provide breaks as needed.  9.In the absence of the Security and Operations Supervisor, respond to alarms, emergency and non-emergency situations provide assistance when necessary, and notify appropriate departments or agencies.  10.In the absence of the Security and Operations Supervisor, complete Worker's Compensation forms for injured staff members when appropriate.  11.              Communicate regularly with the store manager regarding problems, issues or concerns.

GALLERY MONITORING

1. Proactively monitor and operate alarm, access, and closed circuit television security systems; acknowledge and handle incoming alarms and messages; perform appropriate dispatch duties;  communicate with Supervisor per established protocol.  2. Be vigilant of and proactively check for, report, and address any real and potential safety and security threats, hazards, and unusual situations, including but not limited to fire, theft, accidents, trespassing, vandalism, and suspicious activities, throughout Museum premises; prevent unauthorized removal of property.  3. Update and maintain security logs and related security documentation, notating events, officer deployments, unusual incidents, and other security related items per protocol throughout assigned shift.  4. Complete and submit reports on any incidents that occur during assigned shift in a timely manner.  5. Issue and maintain logs of badges, keys, and other equipment distributed to employees and/or contractors (vendors); maintain all other security-related logs and records.  6. Receive incoming telephone calls for the security department; take messages; and make necessary notifications.  7. Contact Emergency Response Services (e.g., fire department, police, etc.) and/or teams via phone and/or radio and provide accurate information during emergency situations.  8. All other monitoring and access control duties as assigned.

VISITOR SERVICES

1.Consistently provide a high level of security and customer service to Museum employees, guests and visitors; direct visitors; and answer questions; maintain order among the public.  2.Enforce visitor and employee compliance with established Museum safety and security policies. 3.Train Museum Attendants in visitor service policies and ensure they are providing exceptional customer service to visitors and museum patrons 4.Ensure the museum's main lobby is prepped and ready to invite visitors into the space. Notify appropriate colleagues of signage or brochures that need to be restocked or updated. 5.              Accurately answer visitor questions regarding a wide variety of topics including exhibition questions, directional questions and questions about other attractions in the UCLA area. 6.Monitor flow of visitors into and out of museum spaces and enforce museum visitor policies.
