POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the planning, development, and administration of all phases of the assigned UCLA sport program. The role involves assisting with practice planning, game preparation, recruiting, administrative tasks and special projects. The Assistant Coach will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to adhering to the policies, procedures, and guidelines set forth by the University of California System, UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA), the respective conference, and the NCAA.

Program Management

 • Assist in developing, planning, and managing all phases of the sport program to ensure smooth operations and alignment with the university's mission and goals.

 • Support the Head Coach in organizing practice and game schedules, as well as coordinating travel arrangements.

 • Help manage the program's budget by overseeing the procurement of supplies and equipment as directed by the Head Coach.

 • Provide supervision and training for managers and support staff, helping to ensure successful execution of program activities.

 • Promote an atmosphere of compliance and assist in monitoring the conduct of student-athletes to ensure adherence to policies.

Recruitment and Selection

 • Assist in recruiting, selecting, and developing student-athletes who meet UCLA's academic and athletic standards.

 • Implement and maintain a structured recruiting process, ensuring compliance with recruitment policies and regulations.

 • Attend recruiting events, maintain contact with prospective student-athletes, and manage recruiting databases. Collaborate with assigned Compliance staff members and Sport Administrator as needed

Student-Athlete Development

 • Support the academic and personal development of student-athletes, fostering an environment that prioritizes their educational goals.

 • Provide guidance and mentorship to help student-athletes succeed in both the classroom and the competitive arena.

 • Assist in developing training programs and practice sessions that contribute to the overall development of the student-athletes.

Public Relations and Fundraising

 • Engage in public relations, fundraising, and promotional activities to support the sport program.

 • Build positive relationships with donors, sponsors, and external stakeholders in collaboration with the University Development staff.

Administration and Supervision

 • Attend departmental meetings and engage in collaborative efforts with other university units to support program goals.

 • Assist in supervising operational staff and other assigned personnel, providing orientation, training, and day-to-day performance management as needed.

Rules Compliance

 • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.”

 • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and University of California System.  The incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations.

    ◦ Review and retain all rules compliance disseminated by the DIA Compliance office.

    ◦ Report all NCAA and conference violations.

    ◦ Sign the annual NCAA Certification of Compliance form.

    ◦ Complete the Athletically-Related Income form annually.

    ◦ Comply with California State Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Law and adhere to mandatory reporting guidelines.

Must possess and maintain current certifications in first aid, CPR, and AED use.

Proof of certifications must be provided within 30 days after employment. Duties will be limited until certifications are submitted.
