POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletic Performance/Head Athletic Performance Coach, the Assistant Athletic Performance Coach will support the development and management of athletic performance programs for assigned teams and student-athletes. The incumbent will focus on optimizing athletic performance through strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, and recovery. The position also requires close collaboration with sport coaches, athletic trainers, and other DIA staff to ensure comprehensive athlete training and well-being.

Athletic Performance Program Implementation

 • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of year-round performance training programs tailored to assigned teams and student-athletes.

 • Lead and administer performance training, including strength, conditioning, agility, and recovery sessions, ensuring adherence to best practices in performance training.

 • Use departmental programming, testing, and other tools or metrics to evaluate and track the performance and development of student-athletes.

 • Coordinate daily performance training procedures, monitor athlete progress, and adjust programs as necessary to optimize performance outcomes.

Collaboration and Communication

 • Collaborate with sport coaches and athletic trainers to design individualized training programs that align with sport-specific goals and student-athlete needs.

 • Communicate regularly with assigned teams, student-athletes, sport coaches, and athletic trainers to ensure alignment in training, student-athlete health, and performance development.

 • Attend and contribute to performance meetings, providing input on student-athlete progress, performance concerns, and program adjustments.

Leadership and Education

 • Provide leadership and guidance to student-athletes, fostering an environment that emphasizes education, growth, and development both on and off the field.

 • Offer instruction in key performance areas, including strength, conditioning, speed, agility, and recovery, using best practices and evidence-based methods.

 • Educate student-athletes on proper training techniques, injury prevention, nutrition, and recovery strategies to promote optimal athletic performance.

Professional Development and Contribution

 • Stay current with the latest research, trends, and best practices in athletic performance, sports science, and athlete development.

 • Engage in ongoing professional development and attend required departmental meetings and training throughout the year.

 • Serve as a representative of the Athletic Performance department, demonstrating a commitment to UCLA’s mission of athletic and academic excellence.

Rules Compliance

 • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.”

 • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and University of California System.  The incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations.

    ◦ Review and retain all rules compliance disseminated by the DIA Compliance office.

    ◦ Report all NCAA and conference violations.

    ◦ Sign the annual NCAA Certification of Compliance form.

    ◦ Complete the Athletically-Related Income form annually.

    ◦ Comply with California State Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Law and adhere to mandatory reporting guidelines.

Licenses, Certifications and Professional Affiliations

CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or CSCCA (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association) certification (per NCAA legislation).

 

Required

 

Must possess and maintain current certifications in first aid, CPR, and AED use.

Proof of certifications must be provided within 30 days after employment. Duties will be limited until certifications are submitted.
