POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Coach is responsible for the planning, development, and administration of all phases of the assigned sport program within the UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics Department. The role includes preparation and management of the program's budget, practice and game scheduling, travel arrangements, recruitment and selection of student-athletes and staff, interaction with support services, and involvement in public relations, fundraising, and promotional activities. The Head Coach will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to adhering to the policies, procedures, and guidelines set forth by the University of California System, UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA), the respective conference, and the NCAA.

Program Leadership and Management

 • Develop, plan, and manage all phases of the sport program, ensuring smooth operations in alignment with the university's mission and goals.

 • Manage the program's budget, overseeing procurement of supplies and equipment.

 • Organize practice and game schedules, coordinating travel arrangements while ensuring cost efficiency.

 • Supervise and train managers and support staff to support program activities.

 • Promote an atmosphere of compliance and maintain responsibility for the conduct of student-athletes and staff.

Recruitment and Selection

 • Recruit, select, and manage student-athletes who meet UCLA's academic and athletic standards.

 • Implement and maintain a structured recruiting process, demonstrating due diligence in compliance with recruitment policies and regulations.

 • Collaborate with assigned Compliance staff members and Sport Administrator as needed.

Student-Athlete Development

 • Demonstrate a commitment to student-athletes’ academic and personal development, fostering an environment that prioritizes their educational goals.

 • Understand and support the demands placed on student-athletes, providing guidance and mentorship to help them succeed in both the classroom and competitive arena.

Public Relations and Fundraising

 • Engage in public relations, fundraising, and promotional activities to support the sport program.

 • Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, sponsors, and external stakeholders in collaboration with the University Development staff.

Administration and Supervision

 • Attend departmental meetings and engage in collaborative efforts with other university and DIA units.

 • Supervise assistant coaches, operational staff, and other assigned personnel, providing orientation, training, and day-to-day performance management.

Rules Compliance

 • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.”

 • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and University of California System.  The incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations.

    ◦ Review and retain all rules compliance disseminated by the DIA Compliance office.

    ◦ Report all NCAA and conference violations.

    ◦ Sign the annual NCAA Certification of Compliance form.

    ◦ Complete the Athletically-Related Income form annually.

    ◦ Comply with California State Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Law and adhere to mandatory reporting guidelines.

Must possess and maintain current certifications in first aid, CPR, and AED use.

Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
