POSITION SUMMARY

Perform routine and semi-skilled maintenance, alterations, and repair of electrical equipment in campus buildings and related facilities using appropriate tools and equipment. Assist Journey Electrician with tasks related to maintenance, replacement, or installation of electrical systems and equipment. Operate and maintain advanced microprocessor based fire alarm systems, specifically, Grinnell/Auto Call and Siemens/Pyrotronics and Notifier equipment. Install and maintain alarms, CCTV, card access systems, digital surveillance cameras and digital recorders. Perform mandatory maintenance and testing of equipment and maintain documentation. Identify malfunctions or problems and report to Journey Electrician, Lead Electrician, Supervisor or Senior Superintendent. Perform routine, semi-skilled and/or unskilled repairs or replacement of electrical fixtures or equipment. Replace fluorescent tubes, ballasts and lenses. Perform other related duties like operating and maintaining a variety of power or hand tools; transporting materials and personnel to and from job site; cleaning up job site and returning equipment and follow all safety procedures. Provide direction to Facilities Workers working with Facilities Mechanics.

Installations and Modifications

1. Repair, replace and/or clean fluorescent ballasts, light fixture diffusers, reflectors, lens, lamps, lamp holders and sockets.

2. Repair or replace electrical components, e.g. light switches and receptacles.

3. Dismantle de-energized components using appropriate tools to repair fused and non-fused switches, circuit breakers and relays.

4. Replace de-energized components such as contacts, relays, linkages fuses, wiring, and related electrical parts.

5. Reset panel board circuit breakers.

1. At request of Supervisor, Lead, and/or Journey Electrician respond to trouble calls involving repair or replacement.

2. Work from blueprints, drawings, and/or oral instructions.

Maintenance and Repair

1. Under general direction of Supervisor, Lead, or journeyperson, perform routine, semi-skilled, and unskilled electrical maintenance or tasks.

2. Assist journey Electrician with tasks related to maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.

3. Maintain power and hand tools.

4. Identify malfunctions or problems and report to journey Electrician.

Administrative Tasks

1. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as requested by Supervisor.

2. With smaller projects and minor repairs evaluate problem, extent of repair and determine appropriate material and equipment required to complete project.

3. Submit completed work orders to Supervisor for closing out project.

4. Request tools and equipment, materials, parts etc. and submit to Supervisor.

5. Orally discuss jobs with Supervisor to keep apprised of job progress.
