POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Sr. Superintendent of Carpentry Shop & through direct verbal/written work assignments from the Supervising Carpenter or Lead Carpenter perform a variety of skilled carpentry duties. Build, repair, install a variety of carpentry-related projects to include:  Build cabinets & repair wall partitions, floors and/or ceiling systems, metal stud framing.  Set door jambs, Hang doors, install metal window frames, insulate walls, hang drywall, install all types of door hardware including panic hardware, concrete forms, scaffolding & special projects to achieve maximum performance, efficiency of operation & quality workmanship on daily basis.  Operate & maintain carpentry tools & equipment. Read blueprints in order to carry out assignments.  Work independently & follow through on assignments with minimal direction.  Maintain appropriate & safe working practices.

Installation and Modification

1.Work from blueprints, drawings, and/or oral instructions in the construction, modification and installation of counters, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim in order to meet requirements of construction and alteration projects. E  2. Report discrpancies in existing blueprints to Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead in order to keep existing as-builts as current as possible. E  3. Install suspended acoustic ceilings, floor tiles, and build concrete forms. E  4. Install fiberglass reinforced paneling. E  5. Install sound blankets and sound absorption material panels. E   6. Install door hardware, motise locks, omni locks, panic hardware. E  7. Install heavy gauge metal studs, steel doors and frames. Install corridor wall, shft wall, and one-hour drywall construction with insulation. E  8. Perform heavy commercial construction e.g. framing, building forms, setting beams, etc. E  9. Generate inventory status report  for amount of work performed and submit to supervisor.E  10. Order materials and supplies from information provided on estimate or work request with Manager and/or Supervisor's approval. E  11. Maintain records of material ordered; verify materials received; forward packing slips/requisitions to purchasing. E  12. Complete client work order form according to established guidelines, logging parts and hours spent on each job. Review reports for correct billing and charge numbers. Document repair work completed in appropriate records/logs. E  13. Following inspection of the job, return completed work request to Manager and/or Supervisor.E  14. Train subordinates in proper work methods and practices in order for them to satisfactorily complete Carpentry job duties.E

General Tasks

1.Maintain accurate hours worked on each job. E  2.Operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools, and equipment related to the Carpentry trade. E  3.Ensure the transportation of materials, equipment, and personnel to and from job site expeditiously. E  4.Follow established safety procedures at all times including inspecting tools and equipment for signs of damage, malfunction, and deterioration on a regular basis. E  5.Upon completion of work, clean-up job site and return equipment, and unused materials, tools, radios, pagers, and Kronos wands to designated storage areas. E  6.Respond to off-hour emergencies and overtime as required. E  7.Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as requested by Manager, Supervisor and/or Lead. E.

Administrative Tasks

1. With smaller projects and minor repairs, evaluate problem, extent of repair and determine appropriate materials and equipment required to complete project. E  2. Submit completed work orders to Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead for closing out project. E  3. Request tools and equipment, materials, parts etc. and submit to Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead. E  4. Orally discuss jobs with Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead in order to keep apprised of job progress and to resolve any problem(s) related to job. E  5. Provide direction to Facilities Mechanics and/or Facilities Workers. E

Maintenance and Repair

1. Inspect structural woodwork in buildings and related facilities for signs of damage, deterioration or need for repair. E  2. Maintain and repair woodwork (cabinets, benches, doors, building framework, etc.); replace worn carpentry related hardware or parts (hinges, latches, drawer pulls, door seals, etc.). E  3. Replace grid and tiles in ceiling systems; repair decking, and/or raised computer flooring systems. E  4. Replace chair casters and glides, adjust desk drawers and typewriter trays and other office furniture; replace auditorium seats. E  5. Repond to trouble calls involving emergency repair and/or replacement. E

Working knowledge of Class A construction, UBC, OSHA, fire codes, construction procedures and ADA requirements (ADA/Fire hardware and installation).

Working knowledge of standard safety practices and equipment used related to the Carpenter's trade.

Skill in: reading plan specifications and/or blueprints; basic mathematics to calculate layouts and offsets and provide accurate cost calculations; modifying and/or adapting designs, procedures or methods to make necessary alterations and modifications.

Writing skills sufficient to complete simple phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports that are accurate and easy to comprehend.
