GENERAL SUPERVISION - Indicates that the incumbent develops procedures for performance of variety of duties; or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines.


POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Manager - Mason, Paint, Roofing and Sign Shops, and the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Paint and Sign Shops, receive work assignments from Supervisor and/or Lead Painters; inspect and maintain painted exterior and interior painted surfaces, trimming and fixtures of buildings and other related structures and facilities. Use premixed paints or custom prepared paints; apply wood finishing (new and/or old surfaces) by appropriately preparing surface. Cover interior walls and ceilings of offices and related facilities with wallpaper or fabrics. Operate and maintain High Pressure Low Volume (HPLV) Spray Booth Equipment in order to finish and refinish wood, metal and synthetic surfaces. Prepare surfaces and apply stains, paints, shading stains, and clear finishes.  With smaller projects and minor repairs, evaluate problem. Discuss jobs with Supervisor and/or Leads in order to keep apprised of job progress and resolve any problems related to the job; submit completed work orders to Supervisor and/or Leads.  Provide direction to semi-skilled or unskilled workers. Maintain accurate hours on each job; operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools and equipment of the trade; follow established safety procedures; clean up job site and return equipment and tools; respond to off-hour emergencies and overtime as required. Follow established safety procedures at all times; clean up job site and return equipment; maintain spray volume logs and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) logs.

1. Work from oral instructions to meet the painting requirements of construction and alteration projects. (E) 2. Inspect interior and exterior painted surfaces, trimming and fixtures of buildings and other related structures and facilities for sign of deterioration or damage. (E) 3. Maintain and repair painted surfaces; make minor repairs and/or adjustments to painting  equipment, e.g., non-functioning compressor, uneven spray, clogged spray guns, pitted needles. (E) 4. Select color for surface to be covered in terms of visibility, durability, aesthetics, and safety; use premixed paints or custom prepare paints to match specified color; paint surface. (E) 5. Apply wood finishing to new surfaces by staining and varnishing; apply wood finishing to old surfaces by bleaching, sanding, staining and varnishing. (E) 6. Cover interior walls and ceilings of offices and related facilities with wallpaper or fabrics. (E) 7. Respond to trouble calls involving an emergency repair. (E) 8. Apply finish and re-finish to wood, metal, and synthetic surfaces within a spray booth environment. (E) 9. Operate and maintain High Pressure Low Volume (HPLV) Spray booth equipment  (E) 10. Prepare and apply stains, paints, shading stains and clear finishes.

1. With smaller projects and minor repairs, evaluate problem, extent of repair and determine appropriate material and equipment required to complete project. (E) 2. Ensure and transport materials, equipment and personnel to and from job site expeditiously. (E) 5. Upon completion of work, clean up job site and return equipment, materials, tools, radios, pagers, and Kronos wands to designated storage areas. (E) 6.
