POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Transit Operations Manager, provide driver services of heavy duty CNG fueled buses, coach buses and trolleys, passenger vans and cars to transport students, staff, faculty, and the public through shuttle programs and charter services for both on and off campus.

This includes heavy duty vehicles (trucks and buses), light duty vehicles (passenger vans and sedans), and specialty vehicles as directed, .

2. Provide driver services for various shuttle services including Campus Express, Wilshire Express, and Weyburn Express; in addition, provide driver services for University contracts (e.g., University Apartments).

3. Provide exceptional VIP driver services for special events as required for Regents Meetings, airport drives and Chancellor drives in a professional manner following specific itinerary as directed on driver trip sheets.

4. Perform pre-trip safety inspections on all vehicles prior to going in-service to identify potential or actual maintenance/safety problems and complete associated logs. Pre-trip safety inspections for buses and trolleys must include inspection of exterior, front end, interior and a complete nine (9) step air brake testing procedure.

5. Perform CNG refueling process for buses at the end of each shift to meet fast fill and time fill requirements.

6. Maintain statistical logs that are required by Transit Management for specific information pertaining to ridership statistics, mileage, vehicle condition, and route effectiveness, etc.

7. Operate Push To Talk (PTT) radio and/or cellular phone for communicating with supervisor(s) and/or other operators.

8. Operate Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system for proper vehicle tracking.

9. Provide customer assistance to passengers regarding shuttle services, route information, campus directions and building locations in courteous, professional manner.

10. Participate in ongoing training/certification programs sponsored by Transit, such as use of wheelchair lifts and ramps; CNG refueling procedures; and driver safety training, to include defensive driving skills, emergency operations, accident prevention, and customer service.

11. Ability to use mapping tools such as Mapquest, Google Maps and Thomas Guide for special event routing.

12. Attend departmental meetings when required, to discuss general items of information, safety issues, scheduling, and procedural adjustments or changes.

Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
