POSITION SUMMARY

The Bell Attendant will greet and escort guests to rooms, open doors, assist guests and visitors entering and leaving the property, and inform guests of property amenities, services, hours of operation, and local areas of interest and activities. The incumbent will identify and explain room features to guests, transport guest luggage to and from guest rooms and designated bell area, and assist with luggage storage and retrieval. The Bell Attendant will supply guests with directions, arrange transportation (e.g., taxi cab, shuttle bus) for guests, and record advance transportation requests as needed. The Bell Attendant will also communicate parking procedures/rates to guests/visitors.


Department Summary

The Luskin Conference Center (LCC) is a 300,000-square-foot, 7-story property on the UCLA campus. The LCC is comprised of 254 guest rooms, approximately 25,000 square feet of meeting space, a 160-seat restaurant, a fitness center, and a business center. The LCC is an academic meeting and conference destination supporting UCLA's education and research mission.

 

The Luskin Conference Center is a no-tipping environment.


Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Guest Services

 • Welcome and acknowledge all guests, anticipate and address guest service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests with genuine appreciation and care

 • Assist guests with removing items from cars, buses, vans, and carts

 • Grasp, lift, carry, or load luggage and packages onto a bell cart to transport items throughout the hotel to the designated room

 • Navigate the bell cart through public areas, guest room corridors, and elevators

 • Escort customers to accommodations, visually inspect the room and telephone, and promptly report deficiencies to housekeeping

 • Point out room features and directory for reference

 • Check the room temperature and adjust heating or AC based on the guest's preference

 • Carry out special service requests (e.g., retrieve a bucket of ice)

 • Organize and store luggage as necessary in the designated area

 • Ensure that guests' belongings are properly stored and secured

 • Ascertain information from luggage tags and claim checks to write numbers and names on claim checks and rooming lists

 • Assist with room moves, special luggage deliveries and pulls, and attend to the main lobby and front door

 • Answer the Bell desk phone and provide information as needed

 • Deliver packages, newspapers, etc. to guest rooms as requested

 • Direct guest flow through the hotel giving assistance and directions to the restaurant and other guest and client facilities

 • Address the needs of the guests in a polite, courteous, timely, and professional demeanor

 • Drive property-designated shuttle carts and vans

 • Handle guest disturbances by alerting the loss prevention team

 • Call taxis or arrange other transportation and travel arrangements for guests as requested

 • Maintain, clean, and polish luggage carts to ensure they are in working order

Track bell cart inventory

 • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas

 • Ensure that the management team is kept fully aware of any relevant feedback from guests and other departments

 • Assist with monitoring the Early Check-In List and notifying guests when rooms are ready

 • Recognize, report, and respond appropriately to maintenance, custodial, and safety deficiencies

 • Accept messages and deliveries for guests and staff and ensure proper and prompt delivery

 • Distribute daily newspapers in the lobby area for guests

 • Distribute the daily mail to guests

 • Communicate any emergency to the immediate supervisor as dictated by the emergency policy

 • Maintain awareness of undesirable persons on property premises and alert loss prevention team
