POSITION SUMMARY | Under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Safety, the Facilities Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining the facilities at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge and Bruin Woods Family Resort. The incumbent performs semi-skilled maintenance tasks on a regular and continuous basis, including plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repairs not requiring a licensed technician. Diagnose and repair plumbing equipment, including pipes, fittings, couplings, valves, pressure regulators, gas regulators, and solar panels. The position will perform miscellaneous repairs as necessary and will need to operate a university vehicle for transporting equipment and completing maintenance repairs. Perform mechanical repairs, including work on fans and motors, heat exchangers, and other miscellaneous mechanical equipment. Diagnose and repair various electrical equipment, including automatic controls, electrical fixtures, ballasts, switches, thermostats, and other electrical equipment. Complete preventative maintenance and work order forms. Complete other duties as assigned. | | | |
Department Summary | UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge is a unique Southern California meeting and retreat venue. Located high in the pine-studded San Bernardino Mountains on the tranquil shores of Lake Arrowhead, our 50-acre lodge provides meeting space and accommodations for groups from September through mid-June. During the summer, Bruins Woods Family Camp program runs for ten consecutive weeks, with up to 80 families attending each week. |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Plumbing | • Diagnose, repair, and maintain plumbing components of basic kitchen equipment such as; faucets, sinks, walk-in refrigeration and freezer units, garbage disposals, water pumps, dish machines, drink stations, and all other machinery. • Replace plumbing fixtures and equipment to include but not limited to; faucets, sinks, water pumps, vacuum breakers, and sections of steam, drain, waste, water and gas lines. • Recognize and clear stoppages in sinks, commercial dish washer drains, pot washer drains, floor drains and waste drains. • Diagnose, repair, and maintain plumbing components of building and physical plant equipment. • Perform miscellaneous plumbing installations and repairs on an as needed basis. | 30% | Mechanical | • Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical components of basic kitchen equipment such as; convection steamers, dish machines, drink and ice machines, pot washers, roto stacks, dish conveyor belts, garbage disposals, walk-in refrigeration and freezer units, fans, and doors. • Replace mechanical fixtures to commercial food service equipment to include but not limited to peg links, roller wheels, latches, locks, hinges, floats, bearings, gears, and fans. • Perform work that involves oiling, cleaning, adjusting, overhauling and repairing motors, condensers, and compressors. Perform major overhaul and repair work that involves disassembly and inspection of parts, replacement of defective or worn parts and reassembly of equipment. • Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical components of basic physical plant equipment. • Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturers' specifications, or management instructions, using hand and power tools, precision measuring or testing devices. • Tests efficiency of system with instruments and makes adjustment to thermostatic controls, blowers, and other instruments. • Maintains kitchen equipment, heating and cooling equipment and work areas in safe, clean operating condition. Reports unsafe conditions, or building or equipment damage to the Director of Facilities & Safety | 25% | Electrical | • Replace electrical fixtures and equipment to include but not limited to fuses, sockets, ballasts, switches, thermostats, heating elements, relays, and contractors. • Remove and install AC/DC motors to be sent out for repairs. • Perform wiring repairs on commercial food service equipment, mechanical equipment, lighting, and other site equipment. • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical components of various physical plant equipment including thermostats, heating elements, relays, contractors and controls. • Perform miscellaneous electrical installations and repairs on an as need basis. | 25% | Service and Maintain | • Service and maintain all basic physical plant and HVAC equipment under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and Safety. • Operate and maintain hot water boilers/heaters and other utility distributing systems. • Lubricate equipment. • Inspect operating controls, safety controls for all equipment. • Observe and repair any defects in the facilities and its equipment. | 10% | Repair, Replace, Install, System Troubleshooting and Problem Solving | • Responsible for testing, repairing, and replacing basic physical plant equipment under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and Safety including, but not limited to: ◦ Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners ◦ Direct Expansion Systems ◦ Condensing Units ◦ Air Handlers ◦ Temperature Controls ◦ Water Softeners | 5% | Other | • Aid in snow removal and ice abatement in a manner to provide top guest safety and service. • Assist in bed move at the beginning and end of Bruin Woods. • Perform or assist in other tasks as assigned. • Ability to drive a golf cart, pick-up truck, snow plow, panel truck or other vehicle safety to avoid accidents. • When requested, assist Guests with vehicle snow chain installation or removal. | 5% | | | | | |
