POSITION SUMMARY | Under the general supervision of the Department Manager and Supervisor/Lead, incumbent is responsible for providing support to properties managed by UCLA Housing & Hospitality. The incumbent performs semi-skilled tasks, not requiring a licensed technician, involving the installation, removal, repair, and preventive maintenance, of various components, circuits, and equipment, related to electrical and access control systems on a regular and continuous basis. Work on de-energized circuits and systems operating at up to and including 277 volts. Repair and install new electrical feeders, conduits, boxes, outlets, fixtures and equipment necessary to provide complete working circuits for a variety of electrically powered appliances and equipment. Understand how to energize and de-energize electrical circuits and systems. Repair and install new access control and electrified door hardware systems and their components, including card readers, electrified door releases, interfaces with panic hardware, and power supplies. Assist journey-level electricians in diagnosing and troubleshooting a wide variety of electrical circuits, components, and systems. Assist journey-level electricians in completing repairs to higher level electrical equipment including circuit breakers, panels, distribution systems, motors, and emergency power systems operating at up to 480 volts. Assist journey-level electricians with maintaining and repairing fire alarm systems and components. Maintain all tools and equipment in the proper fashion including vehicles and carts, personally assigned tools, and departmental tools. Perform various administrative and follow-up tasks related to completing work orders forms, logs, and vehicle inspection sheets for example. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Electrical | Under general direction from a journeyman electrician, perform routine and semi-skilled electrical tasks. Assist journeyman electrician by pulling various types and sizes of wire through conduit, duct system, or wiremold; assist in identifying malfunction and problems by reading indicator lights, on equipment, check for burnt, loose or dirty contacts, loose wires, work or broken parts , conduits, flexes, and faulty wire insulation. Repair, replace and/or clean florescent ballasts, light fixtures, diffusers, reflectors, lens, lamps, lamp holders, and sockets. Repair and replace minor electrical components, e.g., fuses, lights switches, receptacles. Assist journeyman electrician troubleshooting electrical circuits, controls and their components. Dismantle de-energized components, using appropriate tools, to repair fused and non-fused switches, circuit breakers, and relays. Replace de-energized components such as contacts, coils, relays, linkages, fuses, wiring, and related electrical parts. Make minor electrical repairs on de-energized electrical circuits; perform minor total rewiring of light fixtures. Assist journeyman electrician in maintaining and repairing distribution panels, circuit breakers, emergency power systems, starters, contactors, and motors. Reset panel board circuit breakers and replace fuses as directed. Perform preventative maintenance work that involves disassembly and inspection of parts, replacement of defective or work parts and reassembly of electrical equipment. Perform miscellaneous electrical installations and repairs on as needed basis. | 35% | Access Control | Troubleshoot, repair, and install access control readers, card slots, door switches, door magnets and associated power supplies and hardware.
