POSITION SUMMARY | This full-time dual-role position is divided between two departments at UCLA. During the academic year, the incumbent will work as a Food Service Worker in UCLA Dining Services, and during the summer months, they will transition to a Senior Custodian role with UCLA Housing Operations & Safety. Over the course of 12 months, the role will consist of approximately 75% Food Service Worker duties and 25% Senior Custodian responsibilities. Food Service Worker Responsibilities (Academic Year - 75%): Under the direction of Dining Service Managers or Production Staff, the incumbent will provide courteous and professional service to guests. Assist with food preparation, customer service, and sanitation. Prepare single-step cold food items following standardized recipes and approved production methods. Ensure food is presented at the correct temperature and with appropriate garnishes. Maintain cleanliness of work areas, dining rooms, and food preparation equipment. Organize refrigerators, freezers, and storage rooms. Collect and dispose of trash from tables and floor areas. Perform additional duties as assigned. Senior Custodian Responsibilities (Summer - 25%): Under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager or Housing Operations Manager, the incumbent will provide housekeeping services for On-Campus Housing Residential Halls, Conference Facilities, and surrounding exterior areas. Operate various cleaning equipment to maintain guest rooms, public areas, restrooms, and office/meeting spaces. Perform daily maid services during peak periods, ensuring high-quality customer service standards. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Food Service | Responsible for single step cold food preparation such as, topping pizzas, finishing specialty sandwiches, assembling specialty sandwiches and salads. Prepare raw food items for cooking including wash/trim/cut, pan meats and vegetables, open and pan convenience food items. | 10% | | Follow recipes, portion guidelines and production requirements to produce and present cold food menu items. Place prepared food items in proper food storage containers, seal and label for distribution to assigned locations within UCLA Dining. | 10% | | Ensure all food items that are assigned to be finished for customers are presented in a restaurant style including garnish for individual plate or buffet service. Consistently complete assigned production flow/ service records accurately. | 10% | | Follows proper procedures in ware washing and/or cleaning production, storage and service area of work station at the end of shift including but not limited to preparation, storage and transportation equipment, counters, sneeze guards and floors. (E) 3. Cleans and sanitizes tables and chairs in guest seating areas. Clean and replenish napkin dispensers, and condiment stations. Ensure that any marketing material (table tents) in guest seating area is clean and appropriately displayed. | 10% | | See that appropriate service equipment such as plates, silverware, glassware, display ware, service utensils, transportation and storage equipment are washed and assembled for all work areas throughout their shift. See that all trash is removed from tables and floor areas of food production, ware washing, storage and guest seating and transported to the designated refuse containers throughout the shift. | 10% | Custodial | Clean stairways, hallways, corridors, elevators, lobby, outside steps, terraces, patios, windowsills, meeting and auditorium space and other areas as directed. Clean and deodorize public restrooms, including all fixtures, urinals, toilets, sinks, floors and tile. Replenish paper and other supplies. Clean mirrors, showcases, glass panels and windows as necessary. | 10% | | Polish and wax furniture, fixtures and other types of decorative materials in rooms and public areas. 5. Operate vacuums, scrubbers, buffers, waxers and other types of floor care equipment. Vacuum and shampoo carpeting in the residential rooms or the public areas on a regularly prescribed basis. | 10% | | Perform cleaning, housekeeping and general custodial duties in University Apartments complexes. Remove furniture, carpeting, clothing, etc., left by vacating tenants and store in rooms assigned for this purpose. Clean stove and refrigerators and move appliances when necessary to accommodate new or vacating tenants. | 10% | | Submit a daily log on a weekly basis in order to comply with scheduled work in assigned areas.
