SUPERVISION - Indicates that the incumbent performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to the supervisor’s guidelines.


POSITION SUMMARY

Receive, process, and issue dental instruments; cassettes, dental supplies and equipment through the Dental Center Central Services Units. Utilize computerized accounting system, maintain physical inventory, and order material. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of all work areas. Serve as back-up staff as assigned by the Supervisor or Clinic Director.

 

Incumbent performs proscribed tasks and duties under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Central Services.. A performance evaluation will be undertaken on an annual: basis.

 


Department Summary

Receive, process, and issue dental instruments; cassettes, dental supplies and equipment through the Dental Center Central Services Units. Utilize computerized accounting system, maintain physical inventory, and order material. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of all work areas. Serve as back-up staff as assigned by the Supervisor or Clinic Director.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

ISSUING DENTAL INSTRUMENTS, SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT

1. Enter receipt o fall dental instrument cassettes, supplies equipment in computer terminal or manually by assigned procedures codes.

2. Issue sterile dental instrument cassettes and dental material to providers with appropriate authorization. Enter provider number through computer or annually of all issued items.

3. Be knowledgeable about the services and functions of the Dental Center Central. Service Unit.

4. Maintain a pleasant, positive attitude with all patients, students, staff and faculty.

5. Follow usual and customary central service infection control protocols.

50%

PROCESSING: 300-400 DENTAL CASSETTES DAILY, SUPPLIES AND DENTAL EQUIPMENT

1. Decontaminate dental instrument cassettes and dental equipment following unit procedures and policies. Identify and replace missing items. Make appropriate reimbursement entries for re-charges or bills.

2. Process dental instrument cassettes, dental equipment using washer disinfector, ultrasonic units using prescribed solutions and measurements.

3. Assemble and package-c dental instrument cassettes following departmental procedures and policies for sterilization.

STERILIZATION

1. Sterilize all cassettes, etc. using steam sterilizer following the established departmental and manufacturer's instructions. Perform and document quality assurance tests for each load. First run of the day is to test the sterilizer with the air removal test. Monitor steam sterilizer performance using biological test with first load of each day.

2. Ensure that the sterilizer is operational at all times, reporting to the supervisor immediately when emergency repairs are needed. Run air removal test as well as biological test after each scheduled or emergency repair visit. Document repairs and test results. Forward all documentation to the supervisor.

3. Clean sterilizer, washer disinfector and ultrasonic units on a  weekly basis or as needed. Cleaning shall include the interior. and exterior as well as the autoclave cart and carriage.  Documentation of when cleaning was performed Is to. be recorded and kept on file for three years.

MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

1. Monitor supplies such as medicaments and anesthetic on. a monthly basis to verify expiration dates.

2. Instruct dental. students when appropriate in the usage of various dental equipment and supplies.

3. Utilize dental supply instruction manuals when. necessary.

4. Maintain supplies and equipment In both Central areas in the same locations. In other words, both floors are to be identical.

INVENTORY CONTROL

1. Organize supplies by frequency of use and place in the same area when restocking occurs. All drawers and shelves are to be labeled to Identify contents.

2. Maintain inventory of all dental cassettes and handpieces.

3. Standardize all supplies orders from storeroom and pharmacy; restock when minimal stock levels are reached, Follow-up on back orders that exceed a week.

4. Conduct quarterly physical inventory of air dental supplies located in both Central Service areas.

PRODUCT COORDINATION

1. Maintain proficiency in all areas of the Central Service Unit.

2. Coordinate with other staff to organize tasks and duties in each of the areas to maximize overall efficiency and effectiveness.
