POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Positive Behavior Support Supervisor and the Director of Psychological Services, the Inclusion Assistant will assist in the monitoring of behavior support services.  The Assistant will assist faculty in supporting special needs students in multiple classrooms, on the schoolyard, and on field trips.  The Assistant will help facilitate social interaction with students by developing activities that encourage social play and effective communication strategies.

A1. Assist faculty in developing strategies for at-risk students in the classroom and on the schoolyard. (E)  A2. Assist faculty with typical and special needs students in the classroom, and in modeling the use of intervention strategies for teaching assistants. (E)  A3. Assist in helping students with social or behavioral disabilities respond to transitions or unexpected changes in schedules. (E)  A4. Assist in monitoring students with behavioral and/or social challenges, and in identifying antecedents to disruptive behavior. (E)  A5. Assist faculty with supervision of students in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.(E)  A6. Assist in developing activities and leading groups that promote social interaction for students with behavioral and social deficits. (E)  A7. Assist in teaching specific socialization skills to identified students. (E)  A8. Assist in accompanying students with behavioral issues to PE and to special needs programs. Assist in helping them remain on task and learn skills during instruction. (E)

B1. Assist in helping students with special needs to develop coping skills when frustrated and unable to calm down as needed. Assist in intervening when there is a pattern of classroom disruption. Assist in modifying and/or developing classroom materials for learning disabled students. (E)  B4.Tutor children individually or in small groups in order to help them learn and master concepts taught to them by the classroom teachers. (E)  B5. Assist in the educational and social development of students by monitoring classroom and playground behaviors and interactions to achieve productive work habits and positive relationships with other students. (E)  B6. Assist in supporting all students, with a particular focus on children with emotional and/or behavioral problems. Assist in shaping students to effectively manage their behavior, and develop their social skills. (E)

C1. Assist classroom teachers to resolve student conflicts. (E)    C2. Demonstrate professional behavior at all times in all circumstances that promotes a positive influence on students' educational, social, and emotional learning environment, including dress, punctuality, and attendance. Participate with the Director of Psychological Services and the Positive Behavior Support Supervisor to provide in-service training for teachers and staff in best practices for intervening with students with learning, and/or behavioral and/or social skills deficits. (E)  C4. Attend staff meetings and participate in the ongoing training of the Safe School Program to keep abreast of changes. (E)
