POSITION SUMMARY

UCLA's sports championship history stands out as one of the most impressive of any university.  Our student athletes perform at an elite level in their sports, studies, and public service.  As the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA)'s Associate Athletic Director, Development, you will be responsible for the implementation of a principal giving program driving revenue to meet ambitious goals in the Second Century campaign and beyond.  We encourage you to bring your fundraising expertise, strong engagement abilities and high ambitions and join us in our commitment to invest in tomorrow's champions today.

 

As Associate Athletic Director, Development, you will manage a portfolio of principal gift ($3M+) donors and prospects. You will develop prospect management teams of both internal and external stakeholders and influencers and co-lead principal gift strategy meetings.  As a partner with DIA, UCLA development/ External Affairs peers and leaders, and head coaches, you will build compelling cases for support around transformational gifts and deepen relationships with leadership donors and prospects. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Principal Gift Program Management

1. Implement a principal gift program including the development of a playbook/portfolio to share and educate frontline fundraising team.

 

2. Develop compelling vision statements and cases for support around endowment and capital needs.

 

3. In partnership with prospect research identify and refine principal gift prospect list and fold into portfolios.

 

4. Manage a personal portfolio of principal gifts donors modeling cultivation and engagement strategies and successful solicitation.

 

5. Partner with Sr. Director, Stewardship to develop custom stewardship plans for principal gift donors and 1919 Society recognition level donors

 

6. Build trusted relationships with head coaches and educate them on the value of coach engagement around principal giving.

7. Lead Principal Gift strategy meetings setting a cadence, identifying participants, and KPI’s.

 

8. Collaborate with Champion of Westwood, Women in Philanthropy, UCLA Foundation and other affinity groups to drive high level philanthropic support.

 

9. Maintain a high volume of donor activity to meet/exceed metrics for contacts, visits, solicitations and dollars raised.

Donor Acquisition and Business Development

1. Discover, cultivate and solicit high-capacity UCLA-affiliated individuals, foundations and other organizations/entities as appropriate.

 

2. Build a network of professional advisors developing trusted relationships leading to introductions, referrals, and integrating UCLA into philanthropic strategies and goals.

 

3. Work with volunteer committees and relevant organizations to identify potential supporters for Athletics and develop strategies to engage those individuals, corporations, and foundations.

 

4. Expand Athletics philanthropic reach by implementing a geographic approach.

Campaign Planning and Execution

1. Expand UCLA Athletics’ reach nationally leveraging the excitement around campaign and Big 10 opportunities.

 

2. Identify and shape campaign naming opportunities.

 

3. Develop a gift chart and associated metrics supporting campaign revenue goals.

 

4. Identify collaborations that could drive large campaign solicitations.

Rules Compliance

The DIA is governed by the NCAA, BIG Ten, and the University of California.  As an employee of the DIA, incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations.

 

1. Remain current with and abide by the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big Ten, University, and DIA.

 

2. Review and retain all rules compliance documentation disseminated by the DIA Compliance office as it relates to changes and updates to, and rulings on the current rules and regulations.

 

3. Report all NCAA/Big Ten violations per DIA policy.

 

4. Consult with DIA Compliance Administrative Staff regarding any rules and regulations in question.

 

5. Attend training classes as necessary.

6. Complete the annual Athletically Related Income form as required per department policy.

 

7. Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a "Responsible Employee."

Minimum ten years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferably in intercollegiate athletics fundraising

and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.

Experience in and strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the special, major and principal gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

Prior experince in and/or ability to
