POSITION SUMMARY

Our student athletes perform at an elite level I their sports, studies and public service.  As the Director of Development for Annual Giving and Growth, you will provide the overall strategy, leadership and direction for the Wooden Athletic Fund, UCLA Athletics' annual giving program.  We encourage you to bring your annual giving expertise, leadership abilities and high ambitions and join us in our commitment to invest in tomorrow's champions today.

 

In this role, you will manage all aspects of the annual giving program while maintaining a portfolio of donors and growing the donor base to increase support. As our Director, Annual Giving and Growth you will collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director, Development and Senior Directors, Development to build a robust pipeline of major and principal donors. In this role, you will liaise and collaborate with various departments including University Advancement, the Athletics Ticket Office, and the UCLA Foundation.  In addition, as the Director, you will supervise and provide guidance and coaching to fundraising staff. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Annual Giving Fundraising & Pipeline Development

1. Develop strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit prospects/donors; secure support from current/lapsed donors. 

 

2. Develop/manage a portfolio of a designated number of annual giving donors/major gift prospects; regularly interact with prospects/donors through personal meetings, attendance at special events and UCLA athletic competitions, telephone conversations and correspondence; accompany donors to athletic events as appropriate.   

 

3. Develop/implement successful strategies for cultivation/solicitation of donors/prospects at all annual giving levels.

 

4. Identify new donors via available data to develop constituencies, referrals from current donors, introductions at events and/or through other avenues; qualify new prospects in relation to Athletics priorities.

5. Manage annual renewal and acquisition process and other fundraising projects/initiatives.

 

6. In partnership with donor engagement colleagues, develop collateral for the annual solicitation; actively participate in development and delivery of digital communications, direct mail solicitations, email appeals, telemarketing and other annual giving initiatives.

 

7. In partnership with the donor engagement colleagues, implement and oversee WAF access and recognition, including the priority seating strategy.

 

8. Along with Associate Directors, serve to support and fundraise for Olympic sports program.

9. Oversee Athletics Day of Giving and other signature Athletics annual giving events/efforts.

 

10. Identify major/principal gift prospects/donors; work with fundraising team to generate support/renew at higher giving levels.

Program Management & Planning

1. Develop operating plan for annual giving and growth of Wooden Athletic Fund to facilitate achievement of goals and objectives; oversee implementation of fundraising strategies.

 

2. In conjunction with Assistant AD, Development, guide annual giving strategies and conduct regular review of results; determine strengths and weaknesses of program and modify plans and strategies accordingly.

 

3. Establish effective working relationships with Athletics leadership, personnel, volunteers and key drives of program initiatives; provide training as needed.

 

4. Maintain appropriate donor/prospect records for self and ensure staff entry of prospect/donor records/information into CRM; manage follow up reports and contact with donors.

1. Directly supervise professional/support staff providing leadership, guidance and supervision of daily activities as needed.

 

2. Provide strategic direction and goal setting for direct reports and support professional development.

 

3. Conduct annual performance reviews and provide regular feedback on staff performance, addressing issues and providing appropriate training to enable success.

Rules Compliance

The DIA is governed by the NCAA, BIG Ten, and the University of California.  As an employee of the DIA, incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations.

 

1. Remain current with and abide by the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big Ten, University, and DIA.

 

2. Review and retain all rules compliance documentation disseminated by the DIA Compliance office as it relates to changes and updates to, and rulings on the current rules and regulations.

 

3. Report all NCAA/Big Ten violations per DIA policy.

 

4. Consult with DIA Compliance Administrative Staff regarding any rules and regulations in question.

Minimum of three years of experience in a fundraising environment with a preference for annual giving and/or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.
