POSITION SUMMARY

Advance your accounting career as the Fund Accountant for UCLA's Foundation Financial Services team where you will oversee control, budgeting, accounting, reporting and risk management for the UCLA Foundation.  Reporting to the Controller, UCLA Foundation, your work will include fund accounting, planned giving accounting and control, general accounting, audit, accounts payable, accounts/pledges receivable, asset management, internal controls, investment accounting and control and special projects. As part of the External Affairs, Advancement Services organization, UCLA's Foundation Financial Services team is an internal service group that coordinates and performs vital financial and accounting services for all campus departments as well as UCLA constituents.  This team facilitates and supports a broad range of its constituents' activities through a variety of value-added services, including fund accounting and other finance related functions.

 

In this role, you will create a system of checks and balances, provide segregation of duties, as well as oversee all the closing activities performed within the group.  As our Fund Accountant, you will provide guidance for the development and implementation of policy and systems utilized by the group to insure compliance with accounting regulations and Campus policies; recommend and implement process improvements; and will maintain and promote effective working relationships with campus counterparts in General Accounting and UCOP's Accounting team.  As our Fund Accountant, you will also oversee the accounting, and preparation of the year-end audited financial statements for the UCLA Foundation and the UCLA Alumni Association (AA). Control and Ancillary Accounting Services

1. Develop, implement and maintain accounting policies/ procedures that: ensure compliance with the Regents’ Policy on Campus Foundations, Alumni Association and Support Groups, and related policies/administrative guidelines; balance customer service with prudent business practice; comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Guidelines for College and Universities and Government Accounting Standards Board guidelines (GASB) and reporting guidelines prescribed by the University of California Office of the President (UCOP); safeguard Foundation assets ensuring proper authorization, segregation of duties, reconciliation, validations and review.

2. Oversee accounting of $6 billion+ in assets including all Foundation investment portfolios: endowed, (EIP), unendowed (UIP), planned giving and other investment pools, separately held assets/insurance policies.

 

3. Manage  a diverse portfolio of planned giving programs including gift annuities, life estate gift annuities, life estates, trusts, unitrusts, pooled income funds, donor advised funds and other outside trusts.

 

4. Manage other Foundation Assets including pledges currently valued in excess of $550 million; accounts receivable, notes receivable, real estate and other assets.

 

5. Manage Foundation liabilities including accounts payable, depository liabilities and annuities payable and deferred revenues.

6. Manage the Foundation’s annual external/internal audits; interact with Audit partner/others to ensure that financial statements are presented fairly, in accordance with GAAP and GASB.

 

7. Define/lead implementation of new processes to ensure all work is performed efficiently and in compliance with US GAAP and GASB accounting standards.

 

8. Ensure compliance with SAS 112 for documentation and review of internal controls.

 

9. Oversee the Monetary Transfer of Funds process that sends gift funding from the UCLA Foundation to campus; lead project team charged with automating transfer of funds for current expenditure funds and quarterly endowment payout.

10. Manage the UCLA Foundation’s financial fund accounting systems: Microsoft Dynamics and Fundriver; oversee access security/access rights for users; serve as Nextec liaison.

 

11. Assist with enhancements projects for reporting gift data to campus users; participate in campus committees/projects, where applicable, to ensure the UCLA Foundation’s functionality and reporting needs are met.

 

12. Oversee quarter-end close and endowment allocation process.
