POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Lighting and Projection Supervisor, prep, hang, circuit, color, and focus theatrical lighting and projection plots per student designs, demonstrate and guide lighting lab students in hanging, circuiting, focusing, and maintenance techniques, and maintain lighting tools and equipment, machinery, and other equipment used in the creation and presentation of theatrical productions.

A1. Ensure that all lights are hung, circuited, colored and focused according to the light plots and paperwork provided by the student designers. (E) A2. Communicate and cooperate with all members of the assigned production staff and when requested suggest alternative solutions to problems that arise with the lights and/or projections on productions. (E) A3. Coordinate the equipment needs for assigned productions and schedule equipment usage to minimize conflicts between productions. (E) A4. Coordinate with scene shop staff and prop shop staff the timely implementation of practical and physical elements for productions. (E) A5. Supervise professional and student crews during the process of implementing student and guest designs including hanging, mounting, rigging, circuiting, networking, focusing, coloring and striking equipment for productions. Train users on the proper operation and application of all equipment. (E) A6. Train run crews including followspot operators, lighting programmers, and light board and video operators. (E) A7. Attend tech and dress rehearsals as needed. (E) A8. Train lab student in the proper use of lighting equipment, materials, lighting handling techniques and safety precautions. (E) A9. Ensure continued safety of students in all hanging, circuiting and focusing of equipment. (E) A10. Serve as Master Electrician for rentals and events as needed. (E) A11. Work with student designers for all classroom productions and ensure that students know how to operate the lighting and projection equipment safely. (E)

Maintenance

B1. Manage, repair and maintain equipment including control consoles, video servers, dimmers, lighting fixtures, projectors, special effect instrumentation, color changers, foggers, strobes, automated light fixtures, orchestra lighting, control cables, networking systems and power cables. (E) B2. Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, operation checks and adjustments to keep all equipment operating according to manufacturers' specifications. (E) B3. Assist in arrangements for outside repair of lighting equipment when necessary. This includes obtaining repair authorizations, contacting vendors and arranging for transportation of equipment when appropriate. (E) B4. Maintain a functional stock of spare parts for theatrical lighting equipment. (E) B5. Maintain a working inventory of necessary supply of consumable products. (E) B6. Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and overall ergonomic value of the lighting and video workspaces. Make recommendations on how best to improve the efficiency and safety of the workspaces. (E)

C1. In coordination with Lighting and Projections Supervisor and Technical Supervisor, oversee the use of Department facilities and equipment for various campus and public events. (E) C2. Ascertain the technical and operational requirements of assigned incoming events through meetings with Department staff and event organizers and submitted technical specification documents. (E) C3. Make recommendations and procure equipment and labor resources for each event. (E) C4. Participate with other Production Staff in the hiring of casual staff employees. (E) C5. Supervise the appropriate technical labor force necessary for each event. (E)
