POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation and Director of Sports Medicine, coordinate, at a high level, athletic injury prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation to UCLA varsity student-athletes. Organize injury prevention programs. Share responsibility of Sports Medicine services (as appropriate based on professional certification/licensure) and care for all sports and student-athletes as assigned by the Directors of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. Sports Medicine services to include: coordination of post-operative and injury care, evaluation, treatment and documentation of injuries, design and supervision of rehabilitation programs, and supervise and counsel sports medicine student interns assigned to practice and game coverage. Communicate and document athletes' progress to athletic training staff, physicians, performance staff and coaches. Maintain written and computerized documentation on all athletes' injuries, treatments and rehabilitation. Refer injured athletes to UCLA team physicians as appropriate. Administrative and other duties as assigned by the Director of rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. Specifically, this position will be responsible for NCAA Championships, and a supervisor in our sports medicine student program.

1. Coordinate, at a high level, athletic injury prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation to UCLA varsity student-athletes. (E)  2. Share responsibility of Sports Medicine services for all sports and student-athletes as assigned by the Directors of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. This position will provide coverage for sports/events (based on professional certification/licensure) as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine. Sports Medicine services to include: coordination of post-operative and injury care, evaluation, treatment and documentation of injuries, design and supervision of rehabilitation programs, and supervise and counsel sports medicine student interns assigned to practice and game coverage. Communicate and document athletes' progress to athletic training staff, physicians, performance staff and coaches. Maintain written and computerized documentation on all athletes' injuries, treatments and rehabilitation. Refer injured athletes to UCLA team physicians as appropriate. (E) 8.              Submits injured athlete status report to coaches and the Director of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine at designated times. (E)

Training and Supervision

1. Organize guest lecturers and pertinent clinical education sessions to enhance staff professional development. (E) 2.              Maintain necessary units of continuing medical education per requirements of the CA PTLB by attending courses and/or following criterion outlined by the institution. (E) 3.              Maintain necessary units of clinical education per requirements of the NATA (if applicable) by attending courses and/or following criterion outlined by the institution. (E) 4.               Assist in the organization of annual symposia involving an in-depth day of lectures and laboratories pertaining to new developments in research or a particular body part/area of interest. (E) 5. Supervise sports medicine student interns at all levels and mentor third year sports medicine student interns to ensure timely advancement in the sports medicine student internship program. (E)

Other Duties as Assigned

1. Assist with regular safety checks on all rehabilitation equipment, organize maintenance and repairs, and evaluate need for purchasing new equipment. (E)  2. Work with representatives from rehab equipment companies to select best and most cost effective goods - including, but not limited to: braces, rehabilitation equipment, modalities, etc... (E) 3. Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. (E)

The DIA is governed by the NCAA, BIG10 and University of California.  The incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations. Review and retain all rules compliance disseminated by the DIA Compliance office. Report all NCAA/BIG10 violations. Sign the annual NCAA Certification of Compliance form. Complete the Athletically Related Income form annually. Comply with California State Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Law and adhere to mandatory reporting guidelines. Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.”
