POSITION SUMMARY | Under general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director of Academic Excellence, the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Success will support football student-athletes in their pursuits of excellence in the classroom, community and in competition. The primary function is to manage the academic support services for football and monitor student-athlete academic progress. This position will coordinate a team of academic mentors and Learning Specialists who support student-athletes with their progress-towards-degree completion and academic success. Successful candidate will serve as an intermediary between the Football Coaching Staff and the Office of Academic Excellence (OAE) staff in academic matters. The Associate Director of Student-Athlete Success will promote positive cross-campus and inter-department relationships and act as a liaison to various departments including Admissions, Compliance, Recruiting, Eligibility, Office of Student Conduct, Center for Accessible Education, Student Affairs, Communications, Student-Athlete Development. This position acts within NCAA, UC, UCLA, Pac-12/Big10 and department policies to maximize the efficiency and time for student-athletes within the Football program to prepare them for success in life after graduation. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Student-Athlete Academic Success | • Work with Associate Athletic Director of Academic Excellence, Learning Specialists, Peer Learning Facilitation and Coaching Staff to develop Academic Support Plans for football student-athletes. • Work closely with the Office of Academic Excellence Learning Specialists, Academic Mentors, and College Academic Counselor to properly monitor, track and report the academic progress of student-athletes. • Provide direct academic support for student-athletes as needed. • Oversee 5-8 academic mentors that work directly with football student-athletes. Ensure all relevant information is communicated to football personnel. • Work closely with the Peer Learning Facilitation program to ensure information is communicated in a timely fashion directly to football personnel. | 25% | Student-Athlete Academic Success | • Ensure quarterly calendars are completed by end of week 2 for all football student-athletes. • Create a watch list for student-athletes of risk each quarter. Work to develop a communication plan for each “risk” student-athlete. • Provide football staff a daily report of any missing assignments or relevant information from the day. • Facilitate weekly in person meetings for updates to football personnel. • Travel with team and assist OAE in properly coordinating any academic needs including study hall and exam proctoring while on the road for competition. • Act as liaison to student-athlete health and wellness initiatives and remain in contact with department and campus staff for any needs, either proactively or as needed, | 25% | Student-Athlete Academic Success | • Assist student-athletes with registering and receiving services from the Center for Accessible Education. • Collaborate with football staff and OAE staff in the development of post-graduate plans for student-athletes. • Maintain detailed individual student-athlete academic records. | 20% | Compliance, Eligibility, Recruiting and Admissions | • Act as liaison with OAE and Compliance and College Academic Counseling, and UCLA Extension staff to ensure that student-athletes are on proper track to maintain eligibility and complete degree. • Work closely with Compliance staff to gain a strong understanding of NCAA rules and regulations as well as UC, department, conference and campus policies to aid in the recruiting process. • Collaborate with football staff to enhance the recruiting experience of prospective student-athletes as needed. • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during recruiting events | 10% | Compliance, Eligibility, Recruiting and Admissions | Assist Compliance, OAE Counseling and Coaching Staff with incoming student-athletes' tasks such as submitting statements of intent to register, housing applications and first quarter enrollment. | 10% | Student Engagement | • Attend events as needed to represent the UCLA football program.
