POSITION SUMMARY

The statistician will work in center's statistical unit by performing programming, data management, and analyses for national, state and local administrative and survey datasets from different sources. He/she will use SAS, Stata, R, as well as other statistical software to perform data quality control and imputation, construct variables, and to create tables, and reports. He/she will be expected to develop programs and automation for implementation of statistical procedures. He/she will also be responsible for developing, and maintaining database architecture, and applications using programming languages such as R Shiny, SQL, VBA and others. The statistician will help design new workflows to automate survey data development and dissemination. The statistician will be under the supervision of the Director of Statistical Unit.

A model for health surveys for other states, CHIS is committed to ensuring everyone has access to data — policymakers, advocates, health care providers, community organizations, researchers, journalists, and the public — to fight for policies that will improve the lives of Californians through better health and health care. We make sure that data didn’t just sit on a shelf but was accessible and widely disseminated through our public use files and AskCHIS free web query tool.

Statistical Programming

1. Manage and develop database in various platforms including Microsoft Access.

2. Develop, implement, and maintain database applications and user interfaces using programming languages such as R Shiny, SQL, VBA and others.

3. Write documentations on created tools and statistical program.

4. Develop and maintain internal SAS macros and R Shiny programs used for OS upcoding to enhance the efficiency of Data File Development and Production systems and processes.

Data Management & Statistical Analysis

1. Perform programming, data file production and data management on national, state and local, administrative and survey datasets.

2. Create programs and applications that automate survey data development and dissemination processes and quality control.

3. Develop programs to implement statistical methods.

4. Analyze data from surveys with complex designs using SAS, Stata, R and other statistical software.

5. Provide analyzed data in tables, graphs and other usable formats.

6. Provide statistical consultation for research projects, perform statistical analysis, such as generating estimates, confidence intervals, and tests.

7. Provide training and guidance to assistant statisticians in their work.   

8. Develop and complete Data File Development and Production processes for various follow-on surveys conducted with previous CHIS respondents.
