POSITION SUMMARY

Geffen Academy at UCLA's School Counselor reports to the Manager, Student Counseling and Learning and works within the Support Student department to provide social, emotional, and behavioral guidance to the school's students. The School Counselor demonstrates a deep understanding of common developmental issues and uses that knowledge to help students realize their individual success during their time at Geffen Academy. Specifically, in coordination with the Dean of Students team, School Nurse and the Learning Specialist team, the Student Counselor will develop counseling resources and interventions for the student population as needed. The School Counselor will work with students to enhance their ability to effectively work through personal, social, academic, and career concerns affecting their well-being while at school. Additionally, the Student Counselor will create resources for school educators and staff to provide further support as advocates for students' well-being.

ʉۢ Work with Geffen Academy leadership to design a school-wide approach towards social emotional learning.

ʉۢ Provide training and professional development related to mental health and social emotional learning to help support students with a variety of social and emotional issues.

ʉۢ Collaborate with the Dean of Students team,, and classroom educators on the implementation of behavior intervention plans.

ʉۢ Collaborate with the Learning Specialist team to address students' behavioral needs as and when they co-exist with academic learning support plans

ʉۢ Timely responsiveness to internal communication

ʉۢ Work with individual and small groups of students to plan and implement counseling sessions based on students' needs.

ʉۢ Provide student crisis management interventions as needed.

ʉۢ Periodically plan after school or evening workshops and community events to engage with and provide support to our families.

ʉۢ Develop and implement school, student and educator protocols and processes as needed in coordination with Geffen Academy risk management liaisons.

ʉۢ Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.

ʉۢ Make recommendations for external professional support on an as needed basis.

ʉۢ Build positive relationships within the school community.

ʉۢ Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of services provided to students, parents and educators.

ʉۢ Be up-to-date on current research and best practice in student counseling/guidance

ʉۢ Maintain student records and follow confidentiality and record management policies and procedures as directed by the school Handbook and Department of Education requirements. Develop a program continuity plan that would be implemented when unavailable.

ʉۢ Collaborate and effectively communicate with various stakeholders in the school community, notably; the Division Directors, Chief Administrative Officer, Dean of Faculty, Learning Specialist' team, Dean of Students, School Nurse, Wellness Team, and others as needed and directed.

ʉۢ At the direction of the Head of School or designee, develop partnerships, relationships and processes with UCLA departments and key experts in related fields.
