POSITION SUMMARY

UCLA School of Law is seeking a highly energetic and motivated individual with a significant interest in entertainment, media and intellectual property law to serve as the Fellow for the Documentary Film Legal Clinic (Clinic) at the UCLA School of Law. The Fellow will work under the supervision of the Director ("Director") of the Clinic, Dale Cohen, who is also Special Counsel to FRONTLINE, and collaborate closely with the Associate Director of the Clinic, Loralee Sundra and other administrators and faculty to develop clinical, experiential, and pro bono opportunities that ensure students receive high-quality educational experiences. The Fellow will also take on substantial responsibility for the operation of  the documentary filmmaker education program headed by the Clinic in collaboration with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. In this role, you will cultivate relationships with film festivals and other documentary film organizations, collaborate with festival and organization programmers on all aspects of the program, including coordination of scheduling, travel and venue logistics, acting as liaison to program speakers, and developing of program content. We are currently offering two programs a year at various venues. The Fellow will report to the Director and collaborate with the Associate Director of the Clinic to support the Clinic's activities and supervise the work of the student-clinicians.

1)  Conduct intake or initial interviews and consultations with potential clients to provide legal advice and assess cases for possible representation. (E)  2) Assist in the management of ongoing client matters, ensuring that client counseling and services are provided in a timely and professional manner, including during transitions between semesters and over the summer. Program Representation

1) In collaboration with the Director and Associate Director of the Clinic, develop and maintain relationships with documentary film organizations and festivals, including the International Documentary Association, the Sundance Institute and Film Independent, and coordinate education programs at diverse festivals and other venues, including the Sundance Festival, South by Southwest, AFI Docs, Hot Docs, Double Exposure and others. (E)  2) Assist with the development of training for the Clinic's legal education program designed for documentary filmmakers. (E)   3) Provide supervision of students in the Clinic, including feedback, mentoring, and training. (E)

1) Assist the Documentary Film Legal Clinic staff and other industry partners in policy initiatives, including filmmaker training. (E)  2) Represent the Clinic at community events and stakeholder meetings relevant to the Clinic's work under direction of Clinic director. (E)  3) Strategize about how best to support and interface with stakeholder groups. (E)
