POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program Director, the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program Coordinator will support in planning, developing, implementing and assessing programs designed to support the success and well-being of UCLA's foster youth students. The Bruin Guardian Scholars Program Coordinator will support with office management, event planning, coordination of program initiatives and identifying and accessing campus and community resources available to these students that will help them address the specific barriers they experience to succeeding in a collegiate environment.


Department Summary

This position is based in the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program within the Bruin Resource Center (BRC), a Student Affairs Office at UCLA whose mission is to support students development, well-being and academic success and to foster an inclusive and socially just campus community. In the service of this mission, the BRC provides specialized services and programs to the following student populations: current and former foster youth, students in recovery, students with dependents, students impacted by homeless, students who are formerly incarcerated and system impacted, and undocumented students.

Program Coordination

Support the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of initiatives for foster youth students. Facilitate workshops and career-related activities for Bruin Guardian Scholars (BGS). Enhance recruitment outreach to connect BGS students with competitive opportunities, including internships, full-time roles, and admission to top graduate or professional programs. Develop and distribute communications, such as email updates and newsletters, highlighting program events, resources, and relevant information to foster engagement and success within the BGS community. Coordinate interviews for student staff applying for internships & externships. In partnership with the Program Director, assist in the oversight of student intern/externs.

Individual Student Support

Assist in evaluating student needs and facilitating referrals to appropriate academic and support services both on campus and within the community. Provide guidance to ensure students access the resources necessary for their academic and personal success.

Developing Partnerships

Build and maintain partnerships with departments, particularly within Student Affairs and the College of Letters and Science, to advance the goals of the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program and Bruin Resource Center. Collaborate with campus units and community organizations (e.g., UCLA Career Center, UCLA Alumni Association, Ready to Succeed) to connect students with career-focused programs and resources. Support presentations and develop recommendations to establish campus-wide standards and best practices for foster youth student support. Develop & maintain relations with BGS alumni and lead engagement efforts.

Other

Support the strategic goals and initiatives of the Bruin Resource Center and Student Affairs. Assume responsibility for special projects as designated by Bruin Guardian Scholars Program Director and departmental leadership.
