POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Housing Operations Access Control Systems Manager, the Access Control Systems Specialist is responsible for providing technical support of Housing and Hospitality Service's surveillance and access control systems. Major duties include maintaining operational integrity of surveillance and access control systems, while assisting in the planning and developing of the housing and hospitality community's surveillance and access control layout. As a key operator, help identify and trouble shoot minor issues with Access Control surveillance and systems' hardware. Act as a liaison with Housing IT, Network Services and external resources to help implement and manage all Access Control supported systems. Manage housing and hospitality service's inventory of camera equipment and other access control hardware.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Surveillance/Equipment Management

Meet with contractors to perform job walks and give detailed instructions and necessary requirements for cable and network installation under direction of Access Control Systems Manager.

Inspects power supply and wiring of all surveillance equipment, identifying any potential problems.

Responsible for cleanliness of cameras and access control equipment to ensure it is operational.

Keep Access Control Systems Manager advised of any and all technical deficiencies.

Spearhead relevant equipment and software upgrades and new installations as necessary.  

Maintain surveillance system inventory as well as replacement parts for other supported systems.

Assist in the daily operation of Access Control department as needed, including answering phones, emails, in-person customer requests and special events such as move in and move out.

Submit purchase requisition for parts and materials as necessary and relevant to position. 

Develop and present proposed plans for surveillance upgrades and approvals.

Produce and maintain user manuals and documentation for Housing and Hospitality Services' surveillance system and other supported systems.

Attend departmental meetings to discuss surveillance and access control solutions for new and existing buildings.

Review Housing Operations surveillance layout on an annual basis and make recommendations as appropriate.

Resolve projects and assignments quickly and accurately while dealing with frequent interruptions, as well as changing requests from senior management.

Respond to surveillance emergencies as necessary.

Mount surveillance cameras, determine correct settings I.e. frame rate resolution, focus, etc.

Respond to reports of malfunctioning access control equipment and determine necessary course of action to maintain operation of affected unit(s).

Regularly drive UCLA vehicles to facilitate the transporting of equipment and/or materials as needed between on/off campus buildings, and/or offices.

Audit camera footage to ensure recording and live footage is operational.  

Issue surveillance system credentials to housing personnel under direction of Access Control Systems Manager. 

May be required to assist in the selection of materials for use on construction sites with regards to access control and surveillance equipment.

Assist in training team members on operation of surveillance and other supported software systems.

Demonstrated working experience with the installation and maintenance of low voltage camera equipment.

Skill in reading and comprehending technical manuals, manufacturer specifications and troubleshooting guides used in the installation and repair of technical surveillance equipment.

Knowledge of principles and applications pertaining to analog and digital electronics, video cameras and night vision systems.
